CLUB CORNER
Wendover Choral Society
A warm welcome awaits singers, new and old, to Wendover Choral Society this autumn, when a new season of rehearsals starts once again in St Mary's Church, Wendover under the direction of Peter Bassano. A concert of music by Faure is planned for 4 December. Weekly rehearsals are due to start on Thursday, 9 September, 7.45pm - 9.45pm.
Amazingly, despite the restrictions of the pandemic, Wendover Choral Society has not been silent. Socially-distanced rehearsals following COVID 19 rules in an approved venue were held in the autumn term, and more recently, this summer, we have been rehearsing for a private commission in August, which has been a joyous experience for us all.

Our meeting on 1 July didn’t happen as the expected lifting of COVID restrictions was delayed. We are hopeful that restrictions are lifted so that our first meeting will take place on Thursday, 2 September, at St Anne’s Hall, at 2.30pm. There will be a short AGM, followed by one of our members, John Yabsley, talking about Egyptian Gardens. We went on a sociallydistanced coach trip to Rodmarton Manor in Gloucestershire on the 15 July. Very enjoyable and a much-needed escape from lockdown. Hopefully the September meeting will be thefirst of our monthly meetings which we have arranged at the same venue.

Enjoy the open air with BBOWT
All the Trust's reserves around Wendover are open and free to use so please come and enjoy them. Conservation work in small groups also starts up again in August and we now have a centralised system for dealing with enquiries - please email volunteering@bbowt.org.uk saying where you live and what might interest you. Bacombe Hill, Dancersend and Weston Turville Reservoir can all use some extra help to catch up on some of the work we have not
been able to do latterly. A little further afield, College Lake reserve and visitor centre are open every day except Monday - check online for the latest information including news of evening open days when we will be offering a simple menu to enjoy after you have done your constitutional two miles round the lakes... It's a great place to take children too duringthe holidays. Details on www.bbowt.org.uk/ reserves.

Wendover Bowls Club
In late July, Wendover Bowls Club was expecting to hold a Gala, with nearby Clubs sending players to compete, but as Wendover News goes to press, this and the match following it have had to be cancelled due to Covid.
The money would have been most welcome after the year we have had, missing out on the whole of the indoor season and a slow start to our outdoor year.
Sadly what we have missed most of all is the splendid social side of our club life which was also a great money spinner for club funds.
Wendover is doing well in the various club leagues and one or two individual members are reaching dizzy heights at senior levels.
Bowls is a bit like golf, one day you can be brilliant and the next rubbish. Very rarely do you get criticised though, even when you do a very bad shot. Much more likely is a murmur of Oh! bad luck, as your bowl hurtles off into the ditch. Very polite people are bowlers.
