March 2022 Edition In this newsletter I will share current careers opportunities which are accurate as of the day it is sent out. I do not recommend companies or courses, but facilitate these for your information. You will find that there are currently a great number of virtual resources available, including virtual open days, work experiences and insight events of which you will find further details below. This listing is not exhaustive, so please do use the links to carry out your own research into current opportunities and resources. The Careers Lunch programme has started for students in Years 11 – 13. Students are sent a sign-up form during the week prior to the lunch date. Individual Careers meetings with Y11 students are ongoing. The Careers Office is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during term time.

Insight events and Open Day • University taster course programmes 2022 University of London Taster Courses are short courses at participating universities in and around London. They are designed for school students, usually in Year 12, to get an insight into studying a particular subject or subject area at university: www.london.ac.uk/tasters • UCAS Open Day listing Research your options, meet unis, colleges and employers face-to-face, and get your questions answered at University Open Days. It's a good idea to talk about your higher education options in person. UCAS events and course provider open days give you the chance to ask questions and to see what's available. Online resources and events • Unifrog Wellingborough School students are subscribed to the careers software platform Unifrog which also encompasses vApprenticeships and Further Education colleges in the UK, as well as US and Canadian universities, and degrees taught in English in Europe, Asia, and Australasia. Unifrog can help students and teachers with the whole application process - from deciding on a subject area and writing application essays or teacher recommendations, to building an application and sending it. Unifrog’s aim is to bring all the available information and resources into a single, impartial, user-friendly platform that helps students to make the best choices, and submit the strongest applications. This term’s schedule includes sessions on how to break into medicine, learning leadership skills, launching a career to fight climate change and much more. Events for Parents | InvestIN • Debate chamber online insight courses Debate Chamber offers a range of fun and challenging academic events for students aged 11-18, giving participants the opportunity to explore some fascinating subjects in a more sophisticated way than is often available at school. Work experience There are many high-profile companies who offer an insight into their business for 16 to 18-year-old A level students. Experiences can range from 1 day to 2 weeks. Alternatives to University University is not the right choice for everyone so if you are unsure it is worth looking into the alternatives. Apprenticeships are for young people of all abilities who want to get into the world of work and gain skills, experience and qualifications on the job. With an Apprenticeship you earn while you learn. Some even lead to a degree.
