Survivor Stories Project Presented In York

YORK – On Thursday, Oct. 3, Caring Unlimited, York County’s Domestic Violence Resource Center, will present the first of two performances of the new Survivor Stories Project in York County. The first performance will be at 6:30 p.m. at St.

George’s Episcopal Church in York. The second performance will be in Biddeford on Thursday, Oct. 24, with time and location to be announced. In creating the Survivor Stories Project, Caring Unlimited collected stories of abuse written by domestic violence

survivors. The stories compiled for the performances will be read by a cast of volunteers from the local community, and the authors will remain confidential. For survivors, writing their experiences can be a powerful part of the healing process, and for others to hear these true stories, in the survivor’s own words, raises awareness about the reality and prevalence of abuse our family members, friends and neighbors experience here in York County. The performances in York and Biddeford will be the first presentations of this new, unique project of Caring Unlimited. Tickets for the Survivor Stories Project are $5 in advance, $10 at the door ($5 at the door for students or seniors with valid ID). The development will continue with “Phase 4: Meetings with Core Areas – Themes and Goals” for Lower Village on Oct. 7, 8 a.m. at the Washington Hose Fire Co; Route 1 North on Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall; Downtown on Oct. 10, 8 a.m. at the Town Hall; West Kennebunk Village on Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Stevens Community Center; taff on Oct. 15, 12 p.m. at the Town Hall; and Initial Draft Discussions on Oct. 17 at the Town Hall. “Phase 5: Presentation of Initial Strategic Plan” will begin Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.
