on the east coast. The fifth graders of Marshwood Great Works School visited Pinkham Notch to have an expedition learning experience. The Pinkham Notch trips went from April 25 to May 4. Three different groups went for three days each. While they were there, they learned all about ecology and the ecosystem. A fifth grader commented, “Pinkham Notch was an amazing experience for all who went. We learned about the ecosystem, the water cycle, abiotic and biotic creatures, life cycles of animals, and we played lots of activities based on the things we learned. We also learned leadership skills, teamwork, and mindfulness. AMC pushed us to our limits, and we were ready for the challenge. Many people are involved in the trip to Pinkham Notch, and everyone plays some part in the adventure. While there, fifth graders thrive with the gentle guidance of Mr. Burnell and Great Works School teachers, as well as the amazing AMC staff. “Everyone pitched in, and with everyone playing their part, the experience was really something special. one of the students stated. While at Pinkham Notch, each class is split into two groups and each group is assigned an educator, as well as chaperones, who will spend most of the day with the students. Every day, the students and chaperones spend time together hiking, investigating and sharing many learning

activities. There are many other AMC staff besides the educators, such as the kitchen staff, room cleaning service, and employees at the AMC gift shop that make this experience possible. One of the other groups of people are the Marshwood High School HOLD students (Hawks Outdoor Leadership Development), assigned to participate and teach with most of the student groups. HOLD began with the support of a Marshwood Education Foundation (MEF) grant. There are more people who help, such as the bus drivers, due the fact that the bus ride to Pinkham Notch is almost 2 full hours long.
