~ News ~ Girls dance the Night away at Wells elementary WellS – Family memories are certainly made from times like this. The PTSA at Wells Elementary School recently presented its annual ‘Girls Gala.’ This is an event at which, for one special evening, elementary-age girls have the chance to dress up formally and be escorted by their dads into the school gymnasium for a night of dancing and fun.

The theme of this year’s dance was a “Masquerade Ball.” Under a gigantic mask suspended above the dance floor, 148 “princesses” and their dates danced to a variety of music from slow country to hip hop. Presentation on eastern Trail Slated NOrTH BerWICK – An informational presentation, “The Eastern Trail: A Trail and a Vision” will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m., at the North Berwick Community Center, 264 Lebanon Road, North Berwick. Anyone interested in learning about the Eastern Trail is invited to attend. The off-road Eastern Trail currently ends at the Kennebunk Elementary school, but the vision of trail enthusiasts in Southern Maine is for the offroad trail to continue through Wells, North Berwick, South Berwick, Eliot and Kittery. The Eastern Trail Alliance is the focused effort to build, promote and use the trail. The Alliance includes many supporters from throughout Southern Maine, hikers, bikers, cross-country skiers, birders, and other outdoor enthusiasts, dedicated to creating, enjoying and maintaining the Eastern Trail. Panel presenters on March 26 will share the history of building the off-road Eastern Trail, future plans for the trail, reasons to support the trail, and answer your questions regarding the project. Presenters will include Eastern Trail Management District President and Arundel Town Planner Tad Redway; Eastern Trail Alliance and Saco City Planner President Bob Hamblen, and Choose to be Healthy Coalition Director Deborah Erickson-Irons. The Eastern Trail is a 65mile section of the East Coast Greenway, a transportationrecreation greenway connecting South Portland to Kittery. The scenic on-road trail mostly follows quiet country roads. Bike riders, walkers, and hikers can enjoy beautiful outdoor experiences from South Portland’s Bug Light Park on Casco Bay (near Portland) to Kittery’s Piscataqua River. American Girl Doll, a fishing trip and a doll house, was held. “We look forward to it,” said Jen Olin of the large event, but added, “It’s a lot of work.” This year it was Olin along with Kim Woodward who cochaired the committee that coordinated the dance. Olin said the theme is one of the five that will be rotate each year to provide a different yearly experience as students pass through the elementary grades, from kindergarten to fourth grade. Last year’s theme was “Country and Western.” Custodians Dave Norton and Dave Boyd helped transform the gymnasium into a ballroom for the night. It was Boyd who created the enormous ply-
