The document expresses the Municipality's willingness to work exclusively with the Port Authority to explore the feasibility of a cross lake ferry. Central Elgin will also participate in a Request for Proposal for ferry service providers to be issued by the Port Authority in the summer. Proposed new official plan The public will have the opportunity to comment and find out more about Central Elgin's proposed new official plan at a public open house on June 14 and at a public meeting on June 28. The official plan describes council's policies on how land in Central Elgin should be used. It deals mainly with policy issues such as: where new housing, industry,

offices and shops will be located; what services like roads, water mains, sewers, parks and schools will be needed; when, and in what order, parts of the municipality will grow; and community improvement initiatives. Pilot traffic control measures continue The three-way stop and other traffic changes near the William Street and Edith Cavell Boulevard will continue for another summer on a trial basis. Stanley. Council asked staff to prepare a report setting out the costs and other issues associated with paid parking. For 2011, parking will continue to be free in municipal beach parking lots. Old wells to be located Central Elgin employees will be visiting approximately 120 Belmont properties to catalogue old drinking water wells. These wells, if not properly decommissioned, can provide a pathway to the aquifer that serves as the current drinking water supply for the community of Belmont. The properties to be visited were all built prior to 1956 when the municipal drinking water system was established. Festival activities approved A boat parade, live music, and fireworks were among the Port Stanley CANFEST activities approved by Council. Carol Gates of the CANFEST Committee appeared before Council seeking Council's permission for the event to be held in Port Stanley from July 1-3. This is the second year for the event. Council had earlier approved a grant of $3,000 to CANFEST to assist with insurance costs. Sparta Church added to Heritage List Sparta United Church has been added to the list of properties in Central Elgin that Council considers to be of heritage value or interest. Listing under the Heritage Act can delay demolition of a structure for sixty days.
