EASY TUNA PATTIES

AI hear this day in and day out. Women get frustrated. They technically work very hard; however, they tend to overlook some important details.

Firstly, while I always tell my clients not to be rigid with the scale and the number it portrays, they do have to understand that they must invest perfection in order to receive perfection. Meaning, if a harried mother will snack on her kids’ leftover breakfast and then grab a sugar filled “protein” bar- that is not a reflection of perfection! That will be reflected on the scale at her weigh-in appointment. One can think, “Big deal, what will a little extra sugar do to me?” And the answer to that is, that while this will not make you gain weight; it will not allow you to lose weight nicely.

So yes, perfection is a key component to acing weight loss. Same with that little chocolate covered pretzel you are having after lunch. Yes, it is only one mini snack, however, 5 mini nibbles throughout the day amasses to many calories at the end of the day… Multiply that by all the days of the week and there you go- another 2,000 calories that accumulated just from nibbles. Your body has to go into a healthy calorie deficit in order for weight loss to occur. Noshing mindlessly, or noshing on “healthy” items (think; sourdough, granola, seeds, nuts, acai bowls) will not allow us to reach the deficit we need for weight loss.

Sticking to a routine is crucial for success when it comes to weight loss. It is important for your body to regulate itself and to be able to rely on its next meal. If your body is not being fed consistently, we get mixed messages. When that happens, we cannot metabolize our food properly or go into fat burning mode optimally.

Also, many people need to understand that there is a concept of a “delayed reaction”. Meaning, someone can be meticulous for one week and the results will only be seen on the scale at their next weighin appointment. Some peoples’ bodies just work that way! So, if someone will come to see me and be disappointed with their lack of a substantial loss, I will encourage them to keep up with their healthy habits and meals, as their hard work will most probably be reflected on the scale the following week. Oftentimes, I am right, and they are thrilled with their results the following week.

Additionally, some women and teens will not lose weight and often even gain weight, in their time of month. When this happens, I only encourage my clients to continue doing what they are doing and even increase their water intake.

Lastly, if someone has a medical condition such as PCOS, a malfunctioning thyroid, or is on medication for something, weight loss can be a slower process. With the proper guidance, one can really lose weight well, albeit slowly.

In Follow Me, popular author ESTY HELLER has woven a compelling novel around the hot topic of social media’s effects on ourselves and our closest relationships. Wellwritten and peppered with humor, this book will provide much discussion and food for thought, long after its satisfying conclusion.
