Group looks for new leadership

B

irchip Cropping Group is on the hunt for a new chief executive after the resignation of David Chamberlin.

Mr Chamberlin has been with the organisation for almost three years. BCG board chairman Caroline Welsh wished Mr Chamberlin the best for the future and thanked him for his efforts. She said the board would appoint an acting chief executive while it advertised for a replacement to lead a group of ‘vibrant, young and committed agriculture professionals.’ “David leaves BCG in a sound financial state and well resourced,” she said. “We have just taken delivery of a new plot

harvester from overseas and staff are now preparing to harvest the more than 12,000 trial plots BCG has sown this year.

“With his corporate and international experience, David brought a fresh approach to BCG and has worked hard to foster good relationships with our external partners and stakeholders.” Mr Chamberlin said he had enjoyed living and working in Birchip and contributing to group improvements. “I believe I have delivered my greatest value to BCG already with better infrastructure and improved funding for project work and am now planning a return to the commercial side of agriculture,” he said.

Council supports Walk to School Horsham Rural City Council will work with Horsham district primary schools to promote this year’s VicHealth Walk to School month.

The event encourages Victorian primary school children to walk to school during November. The council has joined forces with VicHealth and Wimmera Health Care Group to get more families involved. Horsham mayor Cr David Grimble said Walk to School raised awareness of the need for children to make walking part of their daily routine to improve fitness, friendships, the environment

and their confidence.

“We’ve had a great response with Horsham West and Haven, Horsham, Laharum and Natimuk primary schools signing up for the event. “Children can keep track of their walks, with the help of a parent or teacher, using the Walk to School website and app,” Cr Grimble said. VicHealth chief executive Jerril Rechter said the children who took part would build healthy habits and relationships for life. “The majority of children do not walk every day and with childhood obesity on the rise, this worrying trend needs to turn around,” she said.
