Cats win thriller and deny Tigers es that never-say-die attitude and managed to win the ball and move it forward where Dwayne Hamlyn took a courageous mar. A 50-metre penalty sent him to the goal line where he put the Cats up by two points. Woomelang-Lascelles then managed to hold on for the final minute to give itself a fairytale ending to the season. In the reserves, Beulah held on to win by less than two goals against Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers and Ouyen United was too good for the Tigers in the under-16s.

Woomelang-Lascelles was fantastic from the first bounce. The Cats ran hard and used pin-point accuracy by foot around the ground to kill the Tigers’ defence. Anthony Foot was dominant for the Cats across the half backline, continually throwing his body in front of the strong Tigers forwards and rebounding well to find free players through the wing. Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers struggled to get their best game going and were bought undone by skill errors and lack of pressure. Through the midfield, tough players Trent Donnan and Chris McMahon

Magpies win flag in grand display MININERA DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE By JONATHAN BOX

The Mininera season finished in style with the competition’s senior grand final providing fans with a great display of football. On a perfect spring day, a record crowd turned out to Conna Wilson Reserve at Mininera to watch Wickliffe-Lake Bolac and MoystonWillaura fight it out for the silverware. After a tremendous season, Nicholas Willox finished the year by leading his team of Wickliffe-Lake Bolac Magpies to a 33-point victory over the Pumas. Moyston-Willaura started the game strongly, outscoring Wickliffe-Lake Bolac in the first half, however the Magpies produced a 3.6 third quarter to Moyston-Willaura’s one point and broke the game open. The ‘premiership quarter’ certainly lived up to its name. Michael Otto was outstanding for the victors, featuring in the best and receiving the AFL Victoria Country Medal. His team-mate Dean McInnes added to the win by collecting the JA Knight Medal. Both had an outstanding day along with Lewis Medal winner Bradley Keilar and William Archer. Jason Quinlivian, Michael Blackburn and Nick Willox were also among Wickliffe-Lake Bolac’s best. Moyston-Willaura was obviously disappointed but its season wasn’t a total a loss having made the grand final for the first time in the club’s history. Aaron McKinnis was the only multiple goal
