After the Kees’ form of recent weeks the side from out on the plains is looking ominous and beginning to peak at the right time. In the past couple of years questions have been raised about Kalkee’s speed and age. But with the recruitment of Hugo Papst and Karl Campbell, together with youngsters Nick Jasper and Jasper Gunn, the Kees have the pace and the youth they so desperately craved. Kalkee’s backline is led by the classy Ben Harrison and Jace Monaghan in the main key posts. If required they can swing Josh Mibus and Lawson back there, so versatility is something co-coach Steve Schultz has at his fingertips. Kalkee’s biggest weakness is its defence – and that is not just limited to the back six. All year Kalkee has ended up in shoot-outs with the better sides, allowing for extremely high-scoring games. Unfortunately for the Kees they lack depth, and when required, their bottom six players haven’t quite managed to handle the pressure against the top sides.
