Klezmania in Stawell

S

tawell Regional Arts will present ‘joyful Jewish jazz’ when Klezmania performs at Stawell Bowling Club on August 23.

Touring company ‘Just Shows To Go’, with State Government support through Creative Victoria, is touring Klezmania into Victorian regional centres this month. The Stawell show, starting at 5pm, is part of Stawell Regional Arts’ Cafe Culture Series 2015. Klezmania has been performing for more than 20 years. As balladeers of Aussie folk, the touchingly romantic and traditional Yiddish, they leave you wanting more. They carry the audience along an emotional excursion, spicing the playlist with humour, folk tales, anecdotes and engaging explanations of all things Yiddish.’ Klezmer is traditional Eastern European Jewish music of festival, dance and celebration. ENERGETIC: Klezmania will perform at Stawell Bowling Club on August 23. Lionel Mrocki who were born into a world of Yiddish theatre, folk songs and klezmer, performing on stage since childhood. Lionel has played with many Jewish bands and also performed in Yiddish theatre as both an actor and musician. Promotors said he ‘has the ability to make his clarinet convey many emotions from weeping to laughing out loud’. Freydi has a naturally warm stage presence and is a wonderful singer. She is masterful at imparting information about all things Yiddish.

Freydi represented Australia at an international Klezmer festival in Canada. Multi-instrumentalist David Krycer, who has played with Judith Durham, Barry Humphries, Mike Rudd and Bill Putt from Spectrum, was formerly the bass player in the band but is now its guitarist. Evgeny Belenko, who has also appeared on stage as part of the Culture Series as the falsetto-singing double bass player in the group ‘Bohemian 1LJKWVÂś QRZ Âż OOV WKH GRXEOH bass role.
