Ararat Eagles look for better year BY JONATHAN BOX

2016 COACHES
rarat Eagles will hope for a better year as they move into the 2016 Mininera and District Football League season.
Last season they failed to register a win. It was their worst campaign in their short time involved with the league. The closest they came to enjoying success was a five-goal loss to Caramut in round 16. When it came to losses, 13 came to the tune of 100 points or more, the most severe a 295-0 result against Lismore-Derrinallum. This could have been because the Eagles had an unsettled time throughout their ranks, reflected by figures showing they had 51 players take the field for the seniors, 24 of whom played five games or less. However, it was not all doom and gloom for the Eagles. They showed they had some core players who helped them throughout the tough year. The hope is the Eagles can capitalise on this and put together a formula that leads to a more competitive and successful 2016. Last year Daniel O’Connell did a good job in front of goal, kicking 15 of the team’s 63 goals to be the

Other key players included Brent Bulger, Lachie Bond, Lewis Baker and Nathan Wemyss, who all appeared frequently in the Eagles’ best-players list With clearances having yet to start kicking into gear, the Eagles do not have many on the list going in or out, however, Andrew Beckwith is one outgoing player set for neighbour Great Western and Tom Gibson and Richard McMillan are also looking for a new home at Moyston-Willaura. Josh Taylor and James Dunn are the only two on the incoming list at this stage, and with their clearances pending, it is unsure what role they will play at the club. Hopefully for the Eagles, some new faces at the helm along with their experienced major ball winners will help get them some wins on the board.
