There is nothing better as a kid then taking your pocket money down to the local milk bar to buy a bag of mixed lollies. Or these days it might be a milk or soft drink, a couple of potato cakes, a bag of chips or that critical last-minute missing item from the pantry. Steven and Lily Zhu are proudly bringing back the local milk bar tradition in Horsham with the Wawunna Road Shop. Having immigrated from China 14 years ago, Steve is loving the sense of community that comes from a regional country centre and he and Lily are always quick to share friendly exchanges with happy and loyal customers. The couple was so delighted with the venture into the Oatlands area of Horsham that they celebrated by rebuilding the historic shop, which opened on November 25 last year. Customers have since been enjoying the fresh ready-to-go food and the convenience of neighbourhood shopping. The Wawunna Road Shop has always been a popular community hub and is open from 6.30am to 8pm. Patrons can get everything from fish and chips to grocery items and postage stamps to even a new battery for their watch. Importantly, they will also get a friendly smile and high-quality service. Be sure to drop in and see Steven and Lily for a coffee, a chat and yes – maybe even a bag of lollies.
