Kite Flying: Happiness on a string Kite flying is the ultimate carefree experience for all ages, and a fine activity for promoting health The term “Go fly a kite!” may be what you say to someone who is annoying you. On the other hand, kite flying is a positive and perhaps even peaceful activity that one can indulge in. Kite flying is a simple yet fun activity, in which all you need is a kite and a large open space. Here are some tips for you to get started. The Right Type of Kite In order to get the best experience out of kite flying, it is important to get the right type of kite. In Singapore, the winds are generally of light to medium strength. To suit these conditions, the ideal types of kites would be those with shapes known as the Delta, Diamond or Dragon. There is a large variety of kites to choose from. You can even attempt to make on your own kite, though this may be more challenging than one may think. It would take quite a lot of work experimenting with the materials for the kite and adjusting the balance in order

to make it airworthy. Whether or not they are made or purchased, as one’s skill gets better with experience, one’s kite tends to get larger and fancier in shape. Right Time, Right Place, Right Company Be sure to pick a day when a nice breeze is going. A day without wind is most definitely set up for a disappointing kite-flying experience. More importantly, stay away from a high density of trees. Ideal locations include parks, beaches and fields where there is a lot of space and without too many people around. Last but not least, company makes all the difference so go with your family or friends and not alone. It is also very helpful to have one person to hold the kite and keep the line taut before the other person runs with the end of the line or spool, and attempts to launch it. For a day of carefree fun and activity, why not try kite flying this weekend? By Basil Lee

We have all seen poor photos from phone cams, especially when the lighting conditions are poor. These resulting photos usually turn out to be grainy, ‘noisy’ and unattractive, with severe colour distortions. These photos are too embarrassing to show to friends and family members. Whether it’s blowing out candles on a birthday cake,

or playing with lanterns during the mid-Autumn festival, compact digital cameras can capture quality photos in lowlight situations better than phone cams. The larger sensors and larger lens of the compact digital camera give you superior photo quality when taking photos of your beloved ones, even in poor lighting conditions.

Never let moments with your kids go without capturing those precious memories in good quality photos. Years from now, you’ll be able to look back at these great photos, and memories, and be glad that you did! Look out for more tips from Canon.
