Plenty for seniors to do Our weekly what’s on guide to keep our older locals entertained Penrith Valley Seniors Computing Club Get technologically savvy with computer classes! Yes that’s right a class that fi nally caters to all your modern technological needs. The classes offer step by step training for those who are new learners to Windows, Word, Publisher, Internet and email. They provide excellent training in new ways to communicate with one another besides calling them on the phone. One on one tutoring is available if you are having trouble understanding any content in the class. These classes are on weekly from Monday to Friday and are held from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Penrith Valley Seniors Centre. Details: Contact 4721 0609. Old Time Dance Move, groove and shake your way to the Old Time Dance held every third Saturday of the month. It’s time to pull out those disco dancing moves and shimmy on down to Llandilo Hall for a night you won’t forget. The next dance is held on Saturday, December 15 where supper will be provided. Tickets cost $8 and full food and dancing is included along with a live band for entertainment. Details: The venue is Llandilo Hall, 257 Seventh Avenue, Llandilo. Bookings are required and can be made on 4732 8104. Grow it, Pick it, Eat it Treat yourself to a food-tastic day at Mamre’s Farm. All seniors are welcome to attend this fresh, fun cooking class made available to them by the Homestead. Participants have the opportunity to

harvest food from the farm and bring it back to the kitchen where renowned chef Tony Sharpe will help you create a wonderful meal. As a treat, indulge yourself by giving into temptation and taking a cooking class to increase your skills and recipes that we guarantee your whole family will enjoy. Sessions generally run every second Saturday of each month from 10.30am to midday and cost $25 per person. Details: To book a class contact 9670 5321. Classes are located at the Mamre House, 181 Mamre Road, Orchard Hills. Penrith Showground Markets Each Wednesday you’re invited to the Penrith Showground Markets that are home to 300 stalls. These markets are held from 8.30am–1.30pm and offer local products ranging from plants, fruit, vegetables, clothing, lingerie, tools, art, crafts, car supplies, pet products and more. Come along with friends and families to spend a day of browsing and shopping and looking at what the community has to offer locally. Details: Every Wednesday at Penrith Showground. Penrith City Library’s Knit In Round up the yarn balls and needles ladies and gentlemen because the Penrith Community Library are holding monthly knitting and crochet classes. You will be able to fi nd this group at the lower lounge to join in on the knit-fest. All are welcome to have a chat and learn how to master the knitting needle. These gatherings are

held in support of the ‘Wrap With Love’ fundraiser and other charities. Bring your mug along for a cup of coffee as morning tea is provided. Details: Call Carol on 4732 3108. High Tea in Mulgoa Valley Experience the spectacular view of Mulgoa Valley at a High Tea luncheon held on the fi rst Saturday of each month. You are invited along to observe the exquisite scenery which overlooks the free range chickens, peacocks, ducks, camels and sheep. It is the ideal place to get away from the city and take time out to see the incredible countryside. Jenolan Cave Concerts Dance and sing along to the Paganini Duo who play every last Saturday of each month at the Jenolan Caves. The concert starts at 4pm and fi nishes at 6.30pm. Light refreshments and cheeses are also supplied for all visitors. Transport yourself to the unbelievable scenery of the caves surrounding you and immerse yourself in the natural atmosphere while you chat to the artists after their set. The Older Women’s Network (OWN) Ever wonder who those ladies are exercising in the park or at the pool?

Well wonder no more because the Older Women’s Network is a group designed for elderly women seeking friendship and fitness in one. The regular meets include yoga, aquarobics, Tai Chi, general exercise and dancing. Tea and lunch is also on the timetable for this women’s only group. It is a wonderful way to keep occupied and moving at the same time. The emphasis of this group is maintaining an active lifestyle together in the community. Details: Call 4731 3676. Yoga Classes Balance your mind and body by taking a seniors only yoga class offered to people over 50. Classes introduce stretching, flexibility, strength and relaxation. Students are encouraged to participate in general classes as well to correct breathing and relaxation. At the end of the 11 week cycle students see improvements in mobility, joint stiff ness, muscle weakness, circulation, balance, self confidence and listening skills. You could if you come down to the Bowling Club each Friday at 9.45am and play with other local community members.
