The Holy Trinity Church built in 1886 has been burnt to the ground.

ore than a century’s worth of history has been destroyed after the Holy Trinity Dulwich Hill church burned down last weekend. At 3.45am last Sunday morning, police and Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a report of a fi re at a fitness centre on Herbert Street, Dulwich Hill. However when they reached the address they discovered it was actually the Church. Parish priest Father Dave Smith said it was a sad loss. “The destroying of the church hurts the community more than anyone else,” he said.

“As well as being an historic building it was a great place where children came to exercise, and play and generally socialise together.” But Father Dave is hopeful the children will be able to start their activities again within four weeks. “We’ve had a tremendous response from the community around this area who are calling us to say they can provide a venue for the children,” he said. “I’m not sure where we’ll go at this stage, but it won’t be long until we get a place for the kids.” Police say the fi re was extinguished with nobody hurt but do suspect arson is the cause. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
