Brookfield Library digs into Chicago

Brookeld Public Library invites you to uncover the amazing stories of Chicago buildings old and new and the giants of design and engineering who built them during “Dig Deeper: The Foundations of Chicago Architecture” on Monday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m.

Riverside Rec hosts virtual triathlon

Riverside Parks and Rec will host its annual Cori’s Kids Triathlon for kids and adults virtually this summer.

The run/bike/swim event is held every year in memory of Cori Sikich, a Riverside college student who died in 2002. The Cori Sikich Foundation was established to provide support, opportunities and tools for children and young adults to live healthy, productive lives.

The event is open to anyone age 7 and older, with race distances di ering by age group, 7-10, 11-14, 15-17 and 18-up. The cost to enter the event is $23 and registration is open through Aug. 20. Submit your results by Aug. 29.

Triton backpack giveback

Triton College, in partnership with West 40, will host its 3rd Annual Backpack Giveback Event on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Triton College campus, 2000 5th Ave. in River Grove.

The college will distribute 1,000 backpacks lled with school supplies to area families free of charge.

Registration is strongly encouraged at triton.edu/backpack, though registration doesn’t guarantee a backpack. Families will be asked to remain in their vehicles and drive through campus to the distribution location.

Those without vehicles will be served on a walk-up basis in front of Triton College’s H Building. Social distancing will be enforced. All attendees must wear face coverings.
