Library Summer Reading Kick Off Party Forest Park School District #91 is seeking applications for a vacant position on the Board of Education. An individual will be appointed to fill the vacant position until the April 2023 elections are held. Interested persons must submit a letter expressing interest and a resume via email to jbarnes@fpsd91.org no later than Friday, June 17, 2022. Following a review of the submitted materials, the Board will schedule interviews with selected candidates. Not all candidates for the Board vacancy will be interviewed. Nail & String Art Thursday, June 9, 4-5:30 p.m., Forest Park Public Library Learn a cool new type of art, that involves nails, colorful string, and wood. String art is weaving colored string, wool, wire, or yarn between hammered nails to make geometric patterns. Artists use lines of thread to create curved patterns that can form various desirable shapes. (Make and take kits will be available.) 7555 Jackson Blvd., Forest Park.
An Evening With Andrea Elliott Monday, June 13, Forest Park Public Library The first woman to win an individual Pulitzer in both Arts & Letters and Journalism, New York Times journalist Andrea Elliott’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book Invisible Child: Poverty, Survival, and Hope in an American City chronicles eight dramatic years in the life of a young girl named Dasani and her family as they move from shelter to shelter in New York. By turns heartbreaking and inspiring, Invisible Child is a story about the power of resilience, the importance of family, and the cost of inequality—told through the crucible of one remarkable girl.
