History: The community’s first library was housed in the Scoville Institute on this site, thanks to the generosity of James Scoville, after whom Scoville Park is named. It became a public lending library in 1902. Over time, two branch locations were established. The Maze branch, named for longtime librarian Adele Maze, opened in 1936. It was expanded and renovated in 2006. The Dole branch served as a community college in the 1930s. A new main library was built on the site of the Scoville Institute in 1964. The award-winning and much larger third library was built at the same location and opened in 2003. File
