5 Supervisor’s words This publication is dedicated to the F.6 and F.7 graduates as graduation is a real milestone in one’s life. I would like to congratulate all fellow graduates on having accomplished the mission of equipping themselves well for a more challenging life. I wish them every success in their endeavours. The Speech Day would be exceptionally special as the education in Hong Kong turned a new leaf this year. Due to the introduction of NSS curriculum, the campus life of secondary students has been shortened from seven years to six years. Besides, the public examinations HKCEE and HKAL have been integrated into the brand new HKDSE. Whereas the F.6 students have become the first batch of graduates of the new curriculum, the F.7 students have become the very last ones being called “F.7” students. Since then, the term “F.7” will only be found in history. WKC, being the mother school, would like all fellow graduates to have a high-flying future. No matter how far you go, however high you climb, the cozy campus of WKC would be imprinted on your mind forever. In times of difficulties, the selfless devotion of class teachers and the diligence of subject teachers will be the perpetual spiritual support to you all. Being the supervisor, I am delighted to learn that F.6 and F.7 students of WKC have devoted all their time and efforts to get themselves well-prepared for the first HKDSE and HKAL respectively. In the previous years, you used to rush to the basketball court or the tuck shop once the bell rang. However, this year, you ought to take part in different afterschool enrichment classes till the late evening every school

day. Meanwhile, all teaching staff focused on marking the past papers completed by students. I hope that you will never forget those dynamic and industrious teachers who have tackled every single obstacle of yours with you and come back to visit them frequently. Those were the days when you used to complain how tough it was to be a student. Would you now cherish the moment when you burnt the midnight oil? How fortunate you were to have an opportunity to study hard for getting a ticket to the university! To lead a meaningful life, youngsters should have a dream and try their very best to fulfill it. One of the major reasons why Mr. Steve Job, the founder of Apple Inc., won the praise from all over the world was that he insisted on pursuing his goal. He has aimed at perfection in technology and devoted himself to the development and invention of new Apple products. Eventually, iPhone and iMac have been regarded as one of the most innovative products in human history. Owing to his innovation, we can make a phone call, listen to music, watch movies, read books and even communicate via emails with our fingers. These gadgets are so userfriendly that even a child or an elderly can use them conveniently. Had Steve Jobs given in to imperfection, such impressive, creative and innovative products would have not been invented. I would like to reiterate that the key to success is to dream big and have the perseverance and courage to fulfill it. Another well-known example is Mr. Andy Lau, one of the most diligent Hong Kong actors who has dedicated himself to make his dream come true all his life. His outstanding acting skills in the movie “A Simple Life”

has won him the Best Actor Award in Hong Kong. In the previous thirty years, he met lots of stumbling blocks. He used to be criticized that both his singing skills and acting skills were not up to standard. Despite all criticisms, he worked as hard as “ox” and tried every means to enhance his skills. After years of hard work, he is now a successful actor who can be an innocent 8-year-old child or a mature 80-year-old elderly in “Wait Till You’re Older”, a dignified general in “Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon”, a wise monk in “Running on Karma” and a righteous yet cunning police officer in “Infernal Affairs”. His acting has impressed every audience. He is currently a renowned international celebrity who is the record holder of the Guinness World Record for having won the greatest number of awards. The achievements of Andy Lau illustrate that both perseverance and diligence are significant qualities of a high-flying person. One of the highlights in the coming summer is the 2012 London Olympics Games. We are looking forward to the success of the diving team, gymnastics team, table-tennis team and volleyball team of China. I hope that while every student of WKC see the rising national flag and hear the national anthem, they will bear in mind that the athletes’ success is the fruit of hardships, pain, tears and blood. The Speech Day signifies a new phase of graduates known as “life”. After leaving your mother school, remember that you should set a goal for yourself and work industriously to achieve it. With parents’ expectation, teachers’ love and care and the spirit of WKC—perseverance, courage, loyalty and diligence, spread your wings wide and fly high as an eagle in the boundless azure sky.
