MARRIAGE LICENSE IN HOUSTON? You can apply for a marriage license at any County Clerk’s office in the state of Texas. The Harris County Clerk’s office main branch is located in Houston in the Harris County Civil Courthouse at 201 Caroline, Suite 460. The office phone number is 713.273.8600. NO. 2 : WHAT REQUIREMENTS DO WE NEED TO MEET AND WHAT FORMS OF ID ARE NEEDED TO GET A MARRIAGE LICENSE? Both of you need to be at least 18 years old and unmarried when you apply for your marriage license. You will need to present a valid form of identification at the County Clerk’s office and provide your social security numbers. Driver’s licenses, passports and other government-issued documents are acceptable forms of identification at the Harris County Clerk’s office.

NO. 3 : IS THERE A WAITING PERIOD BEFORE WE CAN GET A MARRIAGE LICENSE IF ONE OF US HAS BEEN DIVORCED RECENTLY? If one of you has ended a previous marriage in divorce, the divorce must be final for at least 30 days before you can apply for a marriage license. You can apply to waive this waiting period by calling the Harris County Clerk’s office or visiting the office in person.

WAITING PERIOD? The fee is $72.00 for a marriage license. There is a waiting period of 72 hours before you can be married. Your marriage license will only be valid after this waiting period has passed. You can contact the Harris County Clerk’s office for information on how to apply to have this waiting period waived. If either of you is active military or currently works for the United States Department of Defense,

NO. 5 : HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO USE OUR HOUSTON MARRIAGE LICENSE BEFORE IT EXPIRES? You will have 90 days to use your marriage license after it is issued by the Harris County Clerk’s office. After 90 days, your marriage license will expire.

NO. 6 : WHO CAN WE ASK TO PERFORM OUR WEDDING CEREMONY? You can ask anyone who is authorized to perform wedding ceremonies in Texas. Rabbis, ministers, priests and judges are authorized to perform wedding ceremonies in the state of Texas, among others.

NO. 7 : WHERE CAN WE GO TO GET OUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE IN HOUSTON? You will be able to order your marriage certificate through the Harris County Clerk’s office. For more information, you can call the Harris County Clerk’s office or visit the office in person.
