26 July, 2016 NEW ZEALAND RUGBY LEGEND ERIC RUSH TO STAR IN GALA NIGHT Grand Pacific Hotel, 11th October, 2016 The Spinal Injury Association of Fiji (SIA) is proud to announce that we will host All Black and Sevens Legend Eric Rush as guest speaker for our Gala Fundraising Dinner on October 11th. This will be one of the most high profile events in Fiji this year and we are offering you the opportunity to be involved through sponsorship. The evening will be hosted by several prominent citizens including the former President of Fiji Sir Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. Ratu Epeli is very aware of the amazing support that the Spinal Injury Association gives to the many spinal injuries and related disabilities on their books and he has enthusiastically supported the holding of this gala night. Mr. Rush is in huge demand worldwide as arguably one of the best Rugby corporate speaker in the world. We are very fortunate to secure his support which he is offering totally free of charge as a measure of his support for Fiji and for Spinal injuries. Eric has also been credited as mentor to a large number of rugby greats including Jonah Lomu for whom he delivered the eulogy at his funeral. Eric’s profile is below. A Time for Giving Back Many people suffering from Spinal injuries in Fiji have a very bleak time. We want to give them back some hope and we are honoured that Eric Rush is taking time out of his busy schedule and donating his time to help us. His airfare has been donated and the Grand Pacific Hotel is generously donating his accommodation as well as the ballroom for the event. A Gala Event‌ A Great Cause The evening will feature live and silent charity auctions as well as spectacular entertainment coordinated by Igelese Ete. All profits from ticket sales as well as all proceeds from auctions will go to the work of the Spinal Injury Association to be used to build and restore the homes and services of severely disabled people living in their own homes and villages.
There will be some amazing auction prizes including travel, holidays, restaurants and sports memorabilia including an All Black jersey signed and donated by Richie McCaw and a signed ball by current All Black captain Kieran Read. As Ratu Epeli says; “If Eric Rush can come all the way over here to support us, and Richie McCaw and Kieran Read are prepared to donate prizes, we owe it to these three rugby greats to make sure this night is well attended and well supported”. ERIC RUSH Eric started first-class rugby with Auckland as an explosive flanker with more pace than most backs. After transferring to North Harbour he got more regular match play and was switched to the backs in 1992. He played 29 games for the All Blacks between 1992 and 1996 (including 9 test matches). His playing career included over 200 first class matches in which he scored over 100 tries. He was one of the world's foremost Sevens rugby players. He represented New Zealand at Sevens for 17 years and captained them to a Gold Medal victory at the 1998 Commonwealth Games at Kuala Lumpur, the World Sevens Series Title for 6 consecutive years, Sevens World Cup championship in 2001, and the Gold Medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. As well as Rugby Union & Sevens Eric has represented New Zealand at touch rugby, was in the New Zealand U-17 representative volleyball team, and won a light-heavyweight New Zealand boxing title whilst still at school. Eric attained the Bachelor of Laws degree, and was admitted to the bar as Barrister, with 8 years of corporate legal experience. He ventured into the grocery industry around 5 years ago and is now the Owner/Operator of the Kaikohe New World supermarket in Northland, New Zealand. His prowess on the speaking circuit is well known and he is arguably one of the best rugby speakers in the world. Eric is also an extremely proficient and entertaining Master of Ceremonies and would be a welcome addition to any function. Career Highlights
