he City of Rocky Top, located in both Anderson and Campbell counties, offers direct access to beautiful Norris Lake, Norris Dam State Park, and WindRock Park The South’s Premier Off-Road Adventure Park. Rocky Top is the home of the Coal Creek Miners Museum, where you can learn the rich history of the miners that lived, worked, and died in Coal Creek, Fraterville and Briceville, Tennessee. You will learn how the “free” miners fought against the convict lease system which ultimately ended the system in the southern states. You will also hear about a community that not only survived one mining disaster but two that killed almost every man in the community and young boys too. The story of this tenacious community reveals the courageous spirit of our forefathers. Tourism has become a driving force of the Rocky Top economy. In July 2016 the City took an aggressive approach to tourism by allowing ATVs/Side X Sides to ride on the streets in Rocky Top. With downtown Rocky Top only 2.1 miles from the trailhead of 73,000 acres of off-road excitement of the WindRock Park, riders can stay at the various hotels, campgrounds, and short-term rentals in town or visit for lunch and fuel. Since Rocky Top has opened its roads to ATVs/UTVs, additional roads have been opened by Anderson and Campbell counties, giving riders in Rocky Top access to Ride Royal Blue, making the city a riding destination for ATVs/UTVs. The Coal Creek Miners Museum has had over 4,500 visitors from 40 states and five foreign countries. A museum expansion is also planned. The city is excited about the tourism growth from the ATVs/UTVs, Norris Lake and other outdoor adventures in Rocky Top. Rocky Top is excited about their bright future while preserving their proud past.
