Realising The Initial Dream COACH K: What then was the initial dream or vision with dance and how did you realise it (that vision) early on?
TOKA: The mission was very simple to me; in order to have my dream job as a dance choreographer, I’d have to ensure that I could dance for three-hours, an inspiration I took when I got to travel to London to watch Beyonce at The Arena. But in order to make my mom happy, I had to complete my degree before perusing it wholeheartedly.
So I used my groceries-fare to take up contemporary dance classes, while I was at

Itschool to enrol in after lectures. That’s when my teacher felt that I could teach hip-hop and that’s how I started obtaining an array of dance and fitness qualifications.
"I haven't stopped since." COACH K: I've been to a few of your classes, one can underestimate just how much fitness you've incorporated in your sessions. (Tell us) What gave you the courage to make that leap then from working in corporate to running Trot Your Globe full time?
TOKA: I’ve always sought truth and awareness in all my engagements. My career journey was just another moment of truth for me. I would audit clients and my personality never justified my

choice in profession, but I was good at it, so stayed in the corporate industry until I was confronted by my life purpose.

The Birth of Trot Your Globe COACH K: You didn't give up your passion or love of dance and are now the founder of Trot Your Globe; a game changing, innovative and successful fitness organisation that incorporates dance from all over the world. Tell me (and our readers) how that came about?
TOKA: I owe it to my love and passion for travel, people, dance and music. I’d used my network to host a dance competition at Vaal Mall eight years ago. I called it Trot My Globe: to inspire the participants to authentically express themselves. I then collaborated with Virgin Active to host free fitness events called Trot My Globe.
These events gained a lot of coverage in the local newspapers so naming them (my company) after my first successful community event was the

natural thing to do. That’s when I registered Trot Your Globe, and the social responsibility initiatives would go onto be called Trot My Globe.
Fulfilment in Living in Your Purpose
Reinvention During Covid-19 COACH K: Let's talk about Covid-19 and the impact it's had on your business Entrepreneur. How have you managed to reinvent your business and keep your passions aligned to this new market?

insight on making the best of studio productions.
COACH K: What modifications did you need to make to sustain yourself while supporting your clientele?
TOKA: Well it started with long conversations with my fiancé and my mom. I had to mentally prepare them for the journey of an entrepreneur before anything because they’re my strongest support.
I strategically separated my personal expenses from my business expenses, and was fortune to have booked television commercials and a billboard to take care of my personal expenses. In this way the company profits re-generated and were allocated to business expenses.
Living a Balanced Life COACH K: How do you balance work and your personal life?
TOKA: Once you’re happy at work, it’s easy to relay that energy onto your personal life. I’m fortunate to have a spouse that prioritises my happiness so he’s encouraging in all I do. He inspires me to make quality time as often as I can.
COACH K: You are most likely approached by a lot of people making offers, trying to partner with you and the like, how do you make those tough decisions -who do you say yes to and who do you say no to, talk us through your process? TOKA: I heard a Pharrell interview where he said that your feeling is your GPS, and it resonated with how I do things. I assess if it’s in line with my purpose and make a decision based on the effort it would inspire from me, if it doesn’t feel good I don’t do it.

A Word from Coach K The idea for K Insights was a no brainer and something I wanted to prioritise for Hello Coach K; not only to showcase African Talent and Leadership from the most unsuspecting places but also to show you (our audience) just what is possible when purpose is pursued with vigour and fervour.
The dream is to be able to profile industry leaders, thought leaders and those still coming up that show potential as often as we can and to give them a safe platform where they can share their honest testimonies; hopefully their stories will inspire and encourage you (our audience) to continue on your journey, to make the courageous leaps required because it is not easy‌it is not neat‌but it is possible.
So I truly hope that you read these profiles and see resemblances in their stories and faces with yours. I hope that in taking in their stories you will start to appreciate your own, to see the beauty in your journey, your struggles, your failures and successes and that you will not only preserver but be tenacious in your pursuit of purpose.
