YESTERDAYS RACING CTION

THE 1895 DUKE OF YORK CLIPPER LOGISTICS STAKES (GROUP 2)

John Quinn’s star sprinter Highfield Princess ran home a ready winner of 1895 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics. It gave the local winner a first win in the race and a first win for Yorkshire since Kevin Ryan in 2012.

She had already run twice at the track and her form read well over a furlong further. She fairly bolted out of the stalls once they opened and Jason Hart looked to have his hands full from flag fall to keep her from getting away from him. Roger Varian’s latest acquisition Dragon Symbol was close in behind and travelled well for a long way. He just seemed to lack a bit of race fitness and should come on leaps and bounds for the run. While his race was ran, Highfield Princess was only just getting going and despite being keen she found an extra gear to get her rivals reaching for their sticks. Minzaal caught the eye as he travelled well into the race under Jim Crowley but couldn’t quite pick up in the same style and may even benefit from a furlong further. Coming into the final furlong the eventual winner extended clear again and try as he might, Spycatcher just couldn’t bridge the gap for Karl Burke. There is no getting away from quite how an impressive she was in the end and it’s great to see another top-class mare coming to win races on the Knavesmire. We look forward to seeing where she might turn up next!

THE TATTERSALLS MUSIDORA STAKES (GROUP 3)

Emily Upjohn was a quite emphatic winner of this year’s Tattersalls Musidora Stakes. Trained by John & Thady Gosden, she was well found in the market and duley obliged by an eased down five lengths.

Emily Upjohn doesn’t look to be the most straight forward of rides and she still has a lot to learn but she clearly has talent in abundance. Before the race she was very much the punters pick but she still needed to go and show what she was all about on the track! Frankie looked to be in more of a wrestling match that a horse race on the daughter of Sea The Stars and he was forced to go slightly wider than he would have ideally liked to have been. Rob Hornby took them along at a good pace on Luna Dorada but she found front running at this level a little too much and dropped back through the field. Dettori loomed up alongside going much the best and quickly began to put lengths between him and his rivals in quite taking style. Life Of Dreams stayed on gallantly on only her second start on the track and she could well improve again but this race was all about the winner. Last year we saw Snowfall win this race before going onto Epsom Oaks glory and if the market reaction is anything to go by, Emily Upjohn could be the next superstar. After the race, Frankie said after that she ‘passed a good test today’ and praised her attitude as she didn’t see another rival for the final three furlongs. She certainly looks an exciting prospect.
