RACE DESCRIPTION This is a two miles, three-and-a-half furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 135. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 135 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 130.

B or Br g Craigsteel - Anna’s Melody (IRE) Jockey: Mr Tristan Durrell (7) Owner: Mr John J Reilly Trainer: Dan Skelton, Alcester Breeder: Richard Eustace Sponsor: Ladbrokes, The Air Ambulance Service (Warwickshire & Northamptonshire)

TIMEFORM VIEW Only 1lb higher than when producing a career-best to win at Newbury last time out but has a 14-month absence to overcome, and despite a good record fresh, is probably best watched for the time being. Star RatingHHHII BHA 142 2 ARRIVEDERCI (FR) (37) 1F023-4 CD

Gr g Martaline - Etoile d’Ainay (FR) Owner: Martin Broughton & Friends 1 Breeder: Stephane Milaveau Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill, Cheltenham Sponsor: Wasdell Group

TIMEFORM VIEW Placed in a pair of good Ascot handicaps last season and looked in need of the run on his return at Taunton last month. Now only 5lb higher than when winning over C&D in 2020 and can’t be ruled out. Star RatingHHHHI BHA 133 3 UP FOR PAROL (IRE) (32) 11-3416 C

B g Flemensfirth (USA) - Clarification (IRE) Jockey: Gavin Sheehan Owner: Sir Chips Keswick Trainer: Jamie Snowden, Lambourn Breeder: Mrs Deborah Hobson Sponsor: Betvictor

TIMEFORM VIEW Won at Haydock on handicap hurdle debut in December and shaped better than the result when sixth in the Lanzarote last time. Still unexposed at this level and remains a hurdler to be interested in. Star RatingHHHHH BHA 132 4 HER INDOORS (IRE) (67) 2101-55

B m Raven’s Pass (USA) - Superfonic (FR) Jockey: A. P. Heskin Owner: McNeill Family & Niall Farrell Trainer: Alan King, Barbury Castle Breeder: Mrs T. Mahon Sponsor: Ultima Business Solutions

TIMEFORM VIEW Made to useful start to her hurdling career in juvenile fillies’ events last season, though hasn’t quite matched that form this campaign and probably now has a bit to prove in open handicaps. Star RatingHHIII BHA 130 5 SHANNON BRIDGE (IRE) (32) 1-P0003 CD

Ch g Flemensfirth (USA) - Bridgequarter Lady (IRE) Jockey: Harry Skelton Owner: Mr M. Boothright Trainer: Dan Skelton, Alcester Breeder: Kevin Neville Sponsor: Ladbrokes, The Air Ambulance Service (Warwickshire & Northamptonshire)

TIMEFORM VIEW Won over C&D and at Ascot early last year. Market spoke well for him when third here last month after a slow start to the season and he’s a well-handicapped horse if able to build on that effort. Star RatingHHHII BHA 129 6 NO WORD OF A LIE (GB) (47) 22-2512 D

B g Milan - Agnese Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies Owner: Dunkley, Gumienny, Mackenzie & Signy Trainer: Oliver Signy, Lambourn Breeder: Mrs H. I. S. Calzini Sponsor: Oliver Signy Racing Llp

TIMEFORM VIEW Off mark in a Sedgefield novice in December and ran just as well when second on handicap debut at Uttoxeter later that month. Up 2lb in a deeper race but he’s a reliable sort. Star RatingHHHII BHA 125 7 HOMME PUBLIC (FR) (48) 2210-36

B g Shantou (USA) - Bisoguet (IRE) Owner: Tor Side Racing Breeder: Kenilworth House Stud Products Ltd (Equine Nutrition)

TIMEFORM VIEW Off the mark in Sedgefield novice (16.8f) in November and followed up on handicap debut at Catterick, suited by the step up in trip. Up 5lb in higher grade here but he likely has even more to come. Star RatingHHHHI BHA 116

PLAY SMARTER

UP FOR PAROL looked a handicapper to follow when scoring at Haydock in December and emerged from the Lanzarote with his reputation intact, despite looking unsuited by the steady gallop. This looks a fine opportunity for him to add a fourth career win. Chief threat may come from the unexposed bottom-weight Findthetime, whilst Arrivederci should strip fitter for his return and is on a lenient mark.
