Race Description

2m 7f 198y

This is a three miles handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 110. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb.

Stewards Note: UNSPEAKABLE: Following its run on 21/12/2022 it was reported that the horse erred mid-race losing its action.

PER VINO VERITAS: Following its run on 18/2/2023 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 9-4 Mullinaree (IRE), 6-1 Trevada (GB), Fancy Your Chances (IRE), 13-2 The Bold Thady (IRE), 8-1 Aldsworth (GB), 9-1 Per Vino Veritas (GB), 22-1 Unspeakable (IRE), 25-1 Shantou Sunset (GB), 50-1 Barrowmount (IRE)

TREVADA is crying out for this stiffer test of stamina and he looks the way to go. Mullinaree also goes up in trip and is a big threat, with Fancy Your Chances dangerous if casting aside a lesser effort when last seen in January.

Horse Welfare

Horse welfare is a priority at Taunton Racecourse At every meeting there are 3 specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys.

A second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse It is designed to afford the vet and horse some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
