FINAL ENCORE managed to do what his smart half-brother Third Wind (for the same connections) failed to achieve when winning a bumper in the spring and with this trip sure to suit now hurdling, he’s just about the most persuasive option. Matterhorn shaped very well on his sole start in France and this good type could be a different proposition away from the Sandown mud fitted with a tongue tie, so he’s a big threat. Ventara is one to note on his debut.

The Invest Southwest Mares’ Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4) (Challenger Mares’ Series Qualifier)

Race Description

This is a two miles and five and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards mares only which have been rated from 0 to 120. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 120 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 115.

for five yrs old and upwards mares x Total prize fund £12300 Owners Prize Money. 1st £4968, 2nd £2483, 3rd £1242, 4th £621. (Penalty Value £6495.63) Weights lowered 2lb. colours no horse age st-lb

PLAY SMARTER

LADY KK needs to dispel a lesser effort over hurdles 4 weeks ago, yet she had previously highlighted this sort of mark is within reach when twice placed over fences at Exeter and she could be worth chancing to bounce back equipped with first-time cheekpieces. Shirocco’s Dream, who impressed with her jumping when successful at Huntingdon recently, can also play a lead role.
