Race Description
As the title suggests, novice races tend to be for younger horses that are still learning their way over hurdles, allowing the inexperienced horses to race against each other before graduating to the ranks of the more established horses. This race differs slightly from a standard novice event in that it is restricted to fillies and mares. This two miles and half a furlong hurdle race is for four-year-olds and upwards.

TIMEFORMVIEWFfos Las bumper winner who made it third time lucky over hurdles when landing a big-field Doncaster novice (16.6f, soft) in decisive fashion last month, proving 4 1/4 lengths lengths too strong for the re-opposing Passing Reflection (5lb pull). The one to beat. TFRHHHHH BHA119

TIMEFORMVIEWShowed a bit when midfield in a 16-runnerWarwick bumper on debut in November and likewise on hurdling bow here (19f, soft) last month. Likely to do better in time but shapes like a stayer, so this drop in trip is of dubious benefit. TFRHHIII BHA-

TIMEFORMVIEWUnable to build on bumper debut promise when mid-field at Warwick in November Again took a strong hold when chasing home Hidden Beauty on first run over hurdles at Doncaster and will need to settle better if she’s to turn the tables on that rival here. TFRHHHHI BHA-

TIMEFORMVIEW Debut effort in a bumper wasn’t completely devoid of encouragement but there were very few positives to take from her subsequent hurdles bow at Sedgefield.

TIMEFORMVIEWCaused a huge shock (200/1) by landing a C&D juvenile event at the end of December In the process of backing that effort up when all but brought down 2 out at Doncaster recently (eventually unseated) and her 4-y-o allowance makes things interesting. TFRHHHII BHA107

Probable S.P’s: 11-8 Hidden Beauty (GB), 5-2 Passing Reflection (GB), 13-2 Inspiratrice (IRE), 8-1 Parikarma (IRE), 16-1 Faerie Cutlass (GB), 66-1 Blue Anchor (GB), Sawpit Samantha (GB)
Provided she is able to at least match what she achieved at Doncaster last time, HIDDEN BEAUTY should be capable of defying a penalty here. The runner-up on Town Moor that day, Passing Reflection, could get closer if settling better this time but Fergal O’Brien’s charge will probably again prove too good, in any case. Armed with her handy 4-y-o allowance, Inspiratrice can also be expected to make an impact.

Horse Welfare

Horse welfare is a priority at Taunton Racecourse. At every meeting there are 3 specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys.
A second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and horse some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
