Race Description

The term ‘maiden’ inspires thoughts of damsels in distress but in horse racing terms it takes on a different meaning. When a horse is referred to as a maiden in National Hunt racing, be it a gelding or a mare, it simply means that they have yet to win a race over obstacles, in this case hurdles. Many of the runners aged four-years-old and upwards in this two miles race will still be inexperienced over hurdles and almost certainly improve for the racecourse experience that they gain today.

PLAY SMARTER

HUELGOAT failed to take advantage of a good opportunity on her British debut at Exeter in the spring, but it’s still very early days with her top yard, and as a lightly-raced bumper winner in France, she’s surely capable of better now switching to hurdles in a first-time hood following wind surgery. Annual Review and fairly useful Flat recruit Data Protection are a couple of potential threats.
