Nerys,who helda training licence for justshort of 30 years, had manysuccesses at Salisbury fromher basenear Seatonin Devon. Her husband, Simon, was also agreat supporter of theracecourse through his regularAxminster Carpets race sponsorships and byhaving anannual box for several years. Theyboth sadly died withina fewmonths of eachother in 2016.

Simon andNeryswereregular visitors to the course, andduringher peak period of training,seldom did aracemeeting pass by without Nerys havinga runner Theywereahugely popular andgenerous couple, and aregreatlymissed. The familynow sponsora race at Salisbury intheir memoryeveryyear.It provides agreat opportunityfor theirchildren, (there are eight of them!) and grandchildrentoget together

The Dutfield’s eldest son,Harry said: “They both loved Salisbury,asitwas alocal track, which always has agreatambiance.One of Dad’s favourite moments was when his old stalwart,Royal Axminster,finallybrokehis maidenatthe grand ageof8,under the yard’s amateur AnnaWallace. Mum had great affection for the mercurialAoninch, who racedatSalisbury fourteen times andfinally scoredinAugust2005, having been placed on her fiveprevious visits to the track.Theyhad many great days at Salisbury and itisa fitting tribute to have aracenamed in theirmemory”
