Ch m Sea The Stars (IRE) - Sortita (GER)

Owner: Mr J. S. Morrison

Trainer: Charlie Johnston, Middleham

Sponsor: Tote, Johnston Racing Ltd

Race Description

This is a two miles handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight of 8st 4lb and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

2022: LATIN FIVE (IRE) 5 8 13 Graham Lee 18-1 (Paul Midgley) 7 ran Visor worn by No 3. Visor, Tongue Strap worn by No 1. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 5, 6.

Stewards Note:

BIRKENHEAD: Following its run on 25/5/2023 it was reported that the horse’s impetuosity made it slow away.

Betting Forecast:

3-1 Mereside Angel (IRE), 7-2 Soul Seeker (IRE), 9-2 Brian The Snail (IRE), 11-2 Birkenhead (GB), 6-1 Albegone (GB), 7-1 Caribbean Sunset (IRE)

A previous C&D winner, MERESIDE ANGEL proved no match for an improver at Musselburgh 23 days ago yet he was nicely on top of the remainder, and from an unchanged mark it would come as no surprise to see him go close. Albegone arrives on a handy mark and should be sharper for his Carlisle reappearance. Birkenhead, for the stable who won this race 12 months ago, completes the shortlist.
