Welcome to Plumpton

WELCOME

Welcome to our annual Bob Champion Cancer Trust Raceday!

It’s been a month since our first fixture of the season, although it feels like 5 minutes to us at the track as the time has flown by! The season started in great fashion on September 18th with the ground riding beautifully despite the very dry summer and over 3,000 people joining us and seemingly having a great time. Since then we’ve had 69mm of rain as well as applying plenty of irrigation and so our going today is largely Good with some Good to Soft in the Hurdle course. Please also keep your eye on the two road crossings across the track – we’ve replaced these between the first two fixtures with a waxed eco surface, which should be a great improvement for all runners.

Its superb to welcome back Bob, Lucy and all the committee for the annual Charity Day at Plumpton. It takes a huge amount of effort to put these events on and the time, effort and commitment of the team is testament to its success - which was notable with around £75k being raised last year which is a cracking effort. However, we aren’t ones to rest on our laurels and we want to do more this year for such a worthy cause (and if you read the Aldaniti page and various Bob Champion adverts in this card, you’ll see some of the amazing things this Charity does) and so make sure you come along and have a look at the silent auction prizes and buy some raffle tickets. Any donation or bid helps and there are some fantastic prizes to have a look at (which are all shown on the middle pages of this racecard).

We must also pass on our sincere thanks to The Humphries Family, Valda Embiricos & The Embiricos Family, Mike Roberts & Summertree Stud, Southern Cranes & Access Ltd, Mrs Vicki Morgan, SIS & Recycled Products Ltd who very kindly support us through sponsorship and more importantly the Charity on such an important fund raising day.

With Chepstow now having been and gone, Cheltenham entries rolling in and those mornings turning markedly colder (we have had a leaf frost already!) it certainly feels like the National Hunt season is ready to take off. Our next fixture on the 31st October has a preview with Colin Brown before racing in Chasers Bar (Lewes Stand) and we have a £26k Handicap Hurdle to really whet the appetite for the season ahead too. We hope you’ll join us for the thrills and spills to come along the way. The world feels a bit fraught at the moment and we hope days with us can be some respite in all of the turmoil.

But for now to today, have an enjoyable day and let’s hope it’s a great days racing and do remember to donate to the Bob Champion Cancer Trust!

Best Wishes,

Dan
