ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS AND STAFF , I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO NEWTON ABBOT FOR OUR EIGHTH FIXTURE OF THE SEASON AND OUR TRADITIONAL LADIES DAY MEETING.

We would like to thank today’s race sponsors and hope they have a great day with us - Janet Denning Fifehead Farms Memorial, Happy Birthday Trixie Let’s Get Tipsy, Get Daily Tips on Attheraces.com, The EBCS Leisure Giddy Up, The Racing Partnership, The Strategic Solutions Chartered Financial Planners, St Austell Brewery.

As part of British racing’s industry strategy, fundamental changes to how the fixture list will be structured, promoted and presented from 2024 have been agreed.

At the heart of this is the creation of a segmented fixture list comprising two clearly defined tiers of fixtures:

Premier fixtures will provide a more readily identifiable top end of the sport and seek to ensure that racing’s best events are positioned and presented to drive increased customer engagement.

Core fixtures comprise the bulk of the fixture list and aim to produce a consistently competitive product, designed to appeal to racegoers and bettors.

It is anticipated that, with improved customer insight, there will be further enhancements in future years and therefore this should be viewed as the beginning of an iterative process.

Following the end of the season last year, the racecourse has undergone some big changes and improvements aimed at enhancing the customer experience for all racegoers. This includes building a new state of the art cellar to ensure the customers have a better experience at the bars. This cellar connects with the three main bars - the Tribute bar, Paddock bar and Thatcher’s bar We have installed solar panels within the racecourse to help the high energy costs, and created a new canter down for the horses to the 2mile 5 furlong start.

Newton Abbot will continue to invest in prize money at all classes during this season.

We thank you for attending today’s meeting, your support is very much appreciated

We wish all Owners and Trainers with a runner here today every success.

OUR NEXT MEETING

FRIDAY 7TH JULY

newtonabbotracing.com TODAY'S SPONSORS

Another exciting day of action at Newton

Abbot began with the Seamus Mullins trained Sharp Note taking first after a very strong performance. She raced prominently throughout, disputing the leader for much of the contest before being shaken up to take the lead just before the second to last fence. She eventually rode out an impressive winner, six lengths ahead of Heneryetta Bay in second with Tommydan the only other to complete.

The second saw D J Jeffreys’ Ayr Of Elegance keep on well to secure the win. She led for much of the contest and her victory was rarely in doubt with Kielan Woods keeping her in a strong position. Komedy Kicks putting in a challenge late on but her jumping let her down and she could only take second.

Myristica took the third in fine style, finishing an unbelievable seventeen lengths clear of the second in what was correctly predicted to be a very one-sided contest. Myristica more than justifying her market support, going off at a tiny 2/11. Ryder’s Rock didn’t run badly in second, but just could not match the leader

Noahthirtytwored justified his favourite status in the fourth, getting off the mark for the season to win by four quarter wasn’t plain sailing Adam West’s

gelding as he started slow and quickly found himself detached from of the field. Sean produced a top ride to kick him into gear and he finally managed to get into position to challenge from the ninth. From then on, he made it look easy, breezing to the front and winning quite comfortably ahead of Light N Strike in second.

The fifth saw another short-priced favourite get the win. This time it was the Chris Down trained Opening Bid, going off at 8/11 he travelled strongly throughout and went clear from two out to win easily This made it two wins

on the bounce for the eight-year-old after his win at Worcester a month prior and he seems to have a fine partnership with jockey Bryan Carver. Princess Midnight jumped well but found herself no match for the winner and had to make do with second while Forget You Not rounded out the podium positions. The Seamus Mullins trained five-yearold Vin Rouge made his first trip to Newton Abbot a successful won as he stormed to victory in the day’s penultimate contest. Sam TwistonDavies rode a classy race, keeping the gelding in the rear and biding his time. He struck just after the third last, taking the lead from two out and was soon clear, winning lengths. Kolisi runner-up for second time in row while the favourite Sassified

couldn’t justify his support in the market and will have to continue that near two year streak without a win. Bringing the day to a close was the classy Corporal Jackjones, who was a ready winner of the bumper. The four-year-old switched to the Syd Hosie yard just six days before this meeting and already looks a bit of a course specialist as he won here at the meeting before this as well. Beau Morgan kept his ride prominent, and he soon went clear to win. His usual jockey before the yard switch, Sam Twiston-Davies was aboard the Sophie Leech trained Maillot Vert this time and he could only manage second.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

With a creditable recent effort on the Flat at Goodwood under his belt, SONGO is taken to open his account in this sphere. The 7-y-o has hardly pulled up any trees in his 3 completed starts in this sphere but he will find few better opportunities than this and the booking of Harry Cobden adds to his appeal.
