LAST MEETING REVIEW

The first meeting of 2022 on Friday 25 March consisted of six excellent races.
1

Our first race the 69 Club Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle saw 5/1shot How’s The Cricket beat 12 rivals. Travelling strongly and towards the rear he made good headway, chasing the leader going easily before 2 out. Shaken up at the last and pushed along he won cosily for jockey Bryan Carver and trainer Harry Fry. The second race of the day, the Happy Birthday Tosia and Lily Handicap Hurdle was won easily by West To The Bridge, trained by Dan Skelton and ridden by Mr Tristan Durrell. The 11/10 favourite who won by an impressive 10 lengths didn’t always jump with fluency but made all going clear before 2 out. The Sky Sports Racing On Sky 415 Mares’ Maiden Hurdle saw 9 runners go to post. 4 The 4/1 winner Whisky Express, the second winner on the day for trainer Harry Fry and ridden by Sean Bowen was held up behind the leaders but was then eased into second place 3 out. The 6 year-old mare was shaken up and pushed along to go clear when approaching the last to beat her rivals.

The fourth race of the day, The Racing Partnership Handicap Chase was won by the 6/5f Le Cameleon, trained by Nick Williams and ridden by David Noonan. Despite the small field the finish was a very competitive one with second placed Magic Dancer challenging the winner before 2 out, only to be outpaced. Le Cameleon kept on strongly to take the prize.
The penultimate race of the day, The William Hill Betting TV Handicap Chase had a surprise outcome with Vinnie The
Hoddie making all to take the prize. Not seen since October when pulled up at Chepstow, the gelding had benefitted from a drop down in trip to 2 miles 1/2 furlong and a return to fences. Keeping on well the second winner on the day for David Noonan beat the joint favourites the David Pipe trained Morgenstern and the Venitia Williams trained Commis D’Office along with his other 2 rivals, a tad cosily by 3 lengths. Our final race of the day, The Newton Abbot Open Maiden National Hunt Flat Race saw trainer, Harry Fry score a treble on the day with 2/1 favourite, Hymac who won the last by an impressive 4 lengths. Held up behind the leaders, he led going easily over 4 furlongs out, quickening and going clear despite drifting right on the run in. One to keep an eye on.
