Welcome to H.R.Smith Group of Companies Raceday at Ludlow.

Great to see so many runners, with one race even having to be divided.

Richard Smith of H.R.Smith Group of Companies have been coming to Ludlow for many years so it is great to welcome them to Ludlow for another year. They have taken the whole of the Windsor Marquee. We all hope you have a fun day.

Many thanks also to Plyvine , our wonderful caterers, under the leadership of Stuart Matthews. We are very grateful for their amazing work at Ludlow

We are nearing the end of our season, but we have a few more delights at the track before we say happy holidays for the summer. Our Evening Meeting on May 9th with a Countryside Theme, and finally our Sunday 14th Meeting which is always a sell out and this year with “Call the Kraken” playing after racing. So, book now!

Hope you have an enjoyable days racing

Best Wishes, Simon Sherwood

(Managing Director/Clerk of the Course).

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

HOW TO READ THE RACECARD

POSTMARK was set a stiff task in the Dovecote just 6 days on from winning an ordinary Newbury maiden, so he has to be worth another chance back in calmer waters based on his useful Flat ability VE Day scored with a bit in hand on his Musselburgh hurdling debut and can be expected to improve, while Call Me Tara made a good start to her hurdle career last summer and remains with potential back from a break.

A few in with a shout but the vote goes to HARDY FELLA, who was unable to live with Norley (easy winner again over fences since) on handicap debut at this track just over 3 weeks ago but looks to have been found a good opportunity to open his account over hurdles. Ballycamus won well at Newbury last month so he heads up the dangers, ahead of Egbert, who may well relish this step up to 3m.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority. If an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the PA system:
