2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse

3. Timeform view and TFR rating

4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race

5. JOCKEY

Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

PLAY SMARTER

RAZZAM failed to justify favouritism 8 months on from his debut over C&D 29 days ago, but it was hardly a backwards step, particularly as a wide draw didn’t help his rider, so he’s well worth another chance. High Ovation and Sharp Power are a pair of interesting newcomers who require close market inspection.

CREME DE CACAO made an eye-catching debut when fifth at Wolverhampton so gets the vote in a maiden which shouldn’t take much winning. Mclean House and Starlight Nation also showed something to work on starting out, while Samagon and Naaser are a couple of newcomers to note.

COUNT OTTO: Following its run on 28/1/2023 it was reported that the horse suffered interference in running.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Silky Wilkie (IRE), 4-1 Spirit of Nguru (IRE), 6-1 Tyger Bay (GB), 15-2 The Green Man (IRE), 14-1 Strong Power (IRE), Tolstoy (IRE), Shallow Hal (GB), Count Otto (IRE), 25-1 Haziym (IRE), 33-1 Exigency (GB)

PLAY SMARTER

SILKY WILKIE finished second for the third successive time at Lingfield last month but it’s hard to question his attitude, unlucky not to win given he had to wait for room at a crucial time, and he’s likely to make another bold bid. Spirit of Nguru arrives in good heart and may emerge as the biggest threat dropped to sprinting with sterner headgear applied, while Tyger Bay remains of interest having not been seen to best effect at Lingfield.

PERFECT GENTLEMAN took a marked step forward when winning here a fortnight ago and he should stay the longer trip, so he’s a confident choice. Fellow last-time-out winner The Pug is a danger and Krona is worthy of a mention on handicap debut.
