DECLARED RUNNERS 6 2022: BAVINGTON BOB (IRE) 7 11 10 Brian Hughes 15-8 (Ann Hamilton) 8 ran

Tongue Strap worn by No 4, 5. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 1, 3.

Stewards Note:

SLANELOUGH: Following its run on 7/1/2023 it was reported that the horse resented the soft ground.

SAINT ARVANS: Following its run on 8/4/2023 it was reported that the horse made a bad jumping mistake.

METHODTOTHEMADNESS: Following its run on 25/3/2023 it was reported that the horse made a respiratory noise.

Probable S.P’s: 15-8 Marown (IRE), 9-4 Domandlouis (IRE), 13-2 Bavington Bob (IRE), 8-1 Saint Arvans (FR), 17-2 Slanelough (IRE)

DOMANDLOUIS hasn’t had much racing over fences and arrives on the back of an encouraging showing, so he’s marginally preferred to Marown, who shaped like a return to this trip would suit when second at Carlisle last time. Last year’s winner Bavington Bob is also considered.

DECLARED RUNNERS 9

2022: NO CORRESPONDING RACE

Tongue Strap worn by No 9. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 2.

Stewards Note:

RAVENSCAR: Following its run on 24/3/2023 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run.

MELCHOIR: Following its run on 29/3/2023 it was reported that the horse was coughing post-race.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Animore (GB), 5-1 Atlantic Dancer (IRE), 11-2 Noble Affair (IRE), 13-2 Rae des Champs (IRE), 8-1 Lady Hamilton (IRE), 12-1 Ravenscar (IRE), 16-1 Melchoir (FR), 22-1 Bella Bluesky (GB), 66-1 Silver Vision (GB)

ANIMORE resumed winning ways in good style at Ayr and, still feasibly treated following a 7lb rise, she will take plenty of stopping. Next on the list is Atlantic Dancer, who arrives here on the back of a couple of solid efforts at Uttoxeter, while Rae des Champs will be a threat if she puts her best foot forward and Noble Affair also needs a second look

DES CHAMPS (IRE)

Shades Of Midnight Award

The ‘Shades of Midnight’ Horse of the Year Award will be presented in May to the connections of the horse judged to have put up the most stirring performance (or performances) at Kelso during the 2022/23 season.

The bronze award, donated by the owners of ‘Shady’ (the winner of seven races including three at Kelso) will go to the owners of a horse that will be selected from a list of nominations made by racegoers. The lad or lass of the horse will also receive £200, which they may or may not choose to spend on polo mints.

If you have a favourite Kelso horse, it’s not too late to make a nomination of your own. Send them, before midnight on Sunday 30th April, to info@kelso-races.co.uk
