Good afternoon and welcome back to Haydock Park for the first day of our Summer Social!

With the jumps season now firmly behind us, we’re well and truly ready to welcome everything that the flat has to offer.

This afternoon, racing will get underway at 2.30pm with The Haydock Park Training Series Apprentice Handicap Stakes, a race which will take place over 1m6f. The last runners and riders on today’s card will be off at 5.40pm, and we wish all owners, trainers and jockeys the best of luck with their entries.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are supporting racing today with races named after them – including EBF and Racing to School This afternoon’s last race is named in honour of local hero George Formby, who was born on this week in 1904

After today we have two more great days of racing ahead of us, including with the highlight of the three days, The Temple Stakes, on Saturday.

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery. The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.

They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

ABANDONED RACING

In the event of abandonment before racing, or up to the ‘Weighed-in’ of the first race, there will be a full refund of badge, ticket and carparking costs. In the event of abandonment after the ‘Weighed-in’ of the first race, up to the ‘Weighed-in’ of the third race there will be a 50% refund of the badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment thereafter there will be no refunds No cash refunds to be paid on the day. All refunds need to be administered after the meeting, by post, to Haydock Park Racecourse, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, WA12 0HQ.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY TO RACECOURSE

Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the racecourse any person without assigning a reason. In particular, any instance of unruly behaviour, such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting, shall entitle the Racecourse Executive toexpel the offending racegoer without prior notice.

Racegoers must abide by any regulations including the observance of designated non-drinking areas and standards of dress Premier Enclosure - tie and smart trousers (no jeans) for gentlemen and best day wear for ladies County Enclosure - smart dress for both ladies and gentlemen is advised. Fancy dress, sportswear (including training shoes) or swimwear are not permitted. Grandstand & Paddock & Be Friendly Enclosures - no dress code. Fancy dress is permitted but please make sure your outfit is not offensive to others.

Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.

In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. PARADE RING ACCESS

In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
