Race Description

This is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for fouryear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

Race Statistics

Leading course trainer (17-22): J Goldie

(35 wins from 327 runners, 11%) runs LOCHNAVER and SPANISH HUSTLE

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (14 wins from 108 runners, 13%) runs CAN CAN GIRL

Weightwatcher: GHOSTLY won off a handicap mark of 55, his rating is now down 7lb to 48.

Longest Traveller: CAN CAN GIRL trained by T Easterby, Malton, 203 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 4-1 Spanish Hustle (GB), 9-2 Blazer Two (GB), 6-1 Lochnaver (GB), 13-2 Hot Team (IRE), 7-1 Can Can Girl (IRE), 11-1 The Navigator (GB), 12-1 Ghostly (GB), 14-1 Smart Lass (IRE), 33-1 Hezmie (IRE)

RACE SUMMARY: If back to his best BLAZER TWO could be the answer to this open-looking handicap. He is just 1lb above the mark off which he was successful at Leicester at the end of May and the booking of Joe Fanning is a plus. Spanish Hustle could be the pick of the Jim Goldie-trained duo and is second choice ahead of Can Can Girl and stablemate Lochnaver

1-2-3: 1.BLAZER TWO 2.SPANISH HUSTLE 3.CAN CAN GIRL (IRE)

STEWARDS NOTE: BLAZER TWO: Following its run on 29/6/2023 it was reported that the horse hung badly lefthanded throughout.
