Fashion Inspired By Goodwood’s Heritage

Sohee Park, designer of Miss Sohee, is winner of this year’s Goodwood Talent in Fashion Award, in association with the British Fashion Council. Upon graduating from Central St Martins in 2020, Park’s debut collection catapulted her into global recognition. “The Girl in Full Bloom” featured sculptural, floral-inspired dresses in vivid, jewel-like colours and resulted in the fashion designer Christian Cowan inviting her to collaborate on looks for his show in New York. The following year, Sohee presented her own runway show during Milan Fashion Week, at the invitation of Dolce and Gabbana.

Her designs have been worn by everyone from supermodels Naomi Campbell and Bella Hadid to Vice President Kamala Harris and many international pop stars, including Miley Cyrus, Cardi B and Ariana Grande.

The Duke of Richmond says:

“Sohee has demonstrated an incredible talent in a very short space of time and her designs simply explode with glamour. Her use of opulent fabrics, embellishment and intricate embroidery are testament to the art of craftsmanship and artistry, something that has always been valued at Goodwood. This award celebrates visionary home-grown talent, while helping us build a unique collection of bespoke pieces for the Goodwood Collection, and we’re delighted that Sohee’s designs will become part of our fashion legacy.”

The three gowns created by Sohee will be revealed today, at 12 noon, during the Opening Ceremony of the Qatar Goodwood Festival on Tuesday 1 August.

The Goodwood Talent in Fashion Award is held every year with the winning designer selected by a panel of judges that includes The Duke of Richmond, Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, Sian Westerman, Non-Executive Director, British Fashion Council and Lydia Slater, Editor of Harper’s Bazaar. The award is now in its third year and the pieces are kept at Goodwood House and form part of the Goodwood Collection.

Thanks for the memories Frankie

Goodwood are delighted to welcome the return of the inimitable Frankie Dettori in his final year as a professional jockey.

It was, after all, at Goodwood where it really all began for the legendary Italian rider with his first winner on Lizzy Hare as a 16-year-old apprentice in 1987 for Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani, and he soon went on to become the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in a season.

Since then, he has become one of the most famous jockeys of all time, racking up dozens of Group 1 races around the world, including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a record six times, 14 Breeders’ Cup successes, four Dubai World Cup victories and the Epsom Derby twice.

He was British flat champion jockey three times in 1994, 1995 and 2004, and who can forget that afternoon at Ascot in September 1996 when he went through the card, riding all seven winners.

Will we see his famous flying dismount in the winner’s enclosure at Goodwood yet again? It has to be long odds-on that we will, and it will be a fabulous way for Frankie, who has given to many Goodwood racegoers so much pleasure over the years, to sign off the time he has spent with us since that first win on British soil 36 years ago.
