Welcome
A Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for attending today’s race meeting.
A lot of building works has been done over the summer and autumn and today is only the second time the New Long Bar is open and in full operation. I apologise that the external landscaping has not been finished, but the weather has been against us and this is now ‘work in progress’.
We have also upgraded the jockeys’ changing rooms, weighing room and increased the size of the Owners’ and Trainers’ Cool Roxy Bar For those of you with eagle eyes you will note that all the chase fences and hurdles have been changed from orange tops and bottoms to white and the hurdles are now made of foam pads and not birch. These are very positive changes that should benefit the welfare of the horses.

Sunday 1st Janaury
The New Year got off to a fine start here at Fakenham with Irish Hill stealing the show in the feature race of the day, the Gamble Plant Norfolk Ltd Grand Prix Handicap Hurdle.
Lord Sparky got the meeting off to an impressive start, winning by eightand-a-half lengths over Enduring Love in second. The popular Dock Road didn’t make an impression and unseated his rider Mr Sean Clarke when two out. The Stuart Edmundstrained Lord Sparky, with Miss Gina Andrews on board, went clear after three out and won whilst easing down in the closing stages. Edmunds stated the gelding benefitted from the application of a first-time visor.
The Paul Nicholls-trained Toothless justified his starting price by cruising to a 35 length success in the second race of the day. Bryony Frost was on board the five-year-old who went well clear when two out to complete an impressive win for connections. Boleyn Boy finished second with Stopnsearch a further seven-and-ahalf lengths behind in third.
It was a much closer contest in the following race, the R Q Capital Novices’ Handicap Chase, with Lincoln Lyn seeing off Le Tueur by just under two lengths. The Tom Gretton- trained seven-year-old was held up towards the rear in the early stages before making a challenge before two out. The mare led approaching the last and kept on well to take the honours with Twasn’t The Plan behind Le Tueur in third.

Market favourite Hurricane Vichi was unable to leave a mark on the following race, the Paddy Power Handicap Hurdle, finishing last of
DON’T MISS OUR NEXT MEETING
FRIDAY 17TH FEBRUARY the pack after Canyon City had been pulled up. It was Stuart Edmunds back in the spotlight again, with the trainer completing a double on the day thanks to Allo Allo, who saw off Fine By Her by a length.
The seven-year-old made all and was ridden by jockey Charlie Hammond when two out before going two lengths ahead during the home turn. The gelding then kept on well to fend off the danger from Fine By Her.
Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost teamed up again to secure the feature race of the day, the Gamble Plant Norfolk Ltd Grand Prix Handicap Hurdle, with Irish Hill stealing the show.
The five-year-old produced a fine performance and led before three out. He soon went clear two out and kept on strongly to ensure there was no chance of Haafapiece from making a strong challenge to his lead.
The Pam Sly-trained ten-year-old was positioned in midfield by jockey Jamie Brace in the early stages before going fourth after two out and then going second when approaching the last. He kept on but was unable to match the winner.
Small Bad Bob and Mayhem Mya were third and fourth respectively.
Another fine day of racing here at Fakenham was then completed with the Dr Richard Newland-trained Bolintlea taking the final race, the www.fakenhamracecourse.co.uk Mares’ Handicap Chase.

The eight-year-old made a couple of errors but it didn’t prove to be costly, going on to win by an impressive 14 lengths over Wildkatze in second.
Market favourite Jessie Lightfoot was brought down at the 15th fence, whilst Redbridge Rosie finished third and The Toojumpa and Hey Frankie were pulled up.

Official BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
