The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2023

Sir David Prosser Trophy

to be awarded to most successful Epsom trainer

The Sir David Prosser Trophy celebrates the achievements of the most successful Epsom-based trainer from the 2023 racing season.

The trophy was named in Sir David Prosser’s honour on his retirement from the non-executive board of Epsom Downs in 2013. Sir David made an enormous contribution to the development of the racecourse over many years and remained a loyal supporter of Epsom Downs and the local training community until his passing in March 2020.

Michael Attwater leads the way so far with 12 winners.

Standings as of 5th July 2023.

The presentation for the winning trainer will be made at the Epsom Trainers Association Ball in November. The Sir David Prosser Trophy championship for 2023 runs from 5th November 2022 to 4th November 2023.

Epsom Downs is home to nearly 180 horses in training. These horses have access to six miles and 250 acres of top quality training surface along the Surrey Downs. We are very proud of the training grounds here on Epsom Downs. Racing is part of our heritage and we want to ensure that we keep the Downs as a prestigious training ground and encourage further business from trainers and owners in the future.

For more information on the trainers and training facilities at Epsom Downs please visit: www.jockeyclubestates.co.uk/epsom

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

PLAY SMARTER

This looks wide open and with that in mind it could just payto take a chance onTYGER BAY. He shaped better than the bare result on his latest outing at Wolverhampton 30 days ago and, from an easing mark, it would come as no surprise to see a good showing, particularly if any rain arrives. Lil Guff is enjoying a good campaign and is feared along with Rocking Ends. Havana Pusey also remains the type to do better

PLAY SMARTER

ICONIC MOVER was beaten by the four-timer seeking Cloudy Rose at Brighton last time, but there was very little between the pair on that occasion and the small swing at the weights here may be enough for Pat Phelan’s gelding to turn the tables. Ship To Shore finally got off the mark when scoring at Southwell last time and can complete the placings.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Epsom Downs Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
