Race Description
1m 2f 70y colours no horse
This is a one mile and two furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds only which have been rated from 61 to 80 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap and is considered a disadvantage.

Stewards Note: LOOK BACK SMILING: Following its run on 12/5/2023 it was reported that the horse became short of room.
Probable S.P.’s: 5-2 Perfect Play (GB), 9-2 Look Back Smiling (IRE), 6-1 Orange Martini (GB), 7-1 Razoni (IRE), 17-2 Playactor (GB), 10-1 We Could Be Heroes (IRE), 16-1 Eagle Prince (IRE), 22-1 Dragonball Prince (IRE)
Several of these are appealing but PERFECT PLAY gets the nod on the back of his solid reappearance second at Beverley and he could prove hard to peg back round here. Next on the list is Razoni, who probably didn’t show his full hand switched to turf at Redcar where he took a bump and became unbalanced at a crucial stage of the race. Look Back Smiling and Orange Martini both have claims, while handicap debutant Playactor is also worthy of consideration.

Race Description
This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

PLAY SMARTER
DEMILION is steadily going the right way in middle-distance handicaps, like many from the Johnston yard and, having run just about his best race yet when runner-up over C&D earlier this month, he looks to hold sound claims of going one place better taking on his elders for the first time. Greystoke, a winner himself over C&D recently looks a big threat, with Chillhi and The Nu Form Way next best.
