Race Description

This is a two mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

PONS AELIUS has been running consistently well of late and his rider often gets it right at this track, so he gets the narrow vote over Red Derek, with Scottish Dancer also considered on just his second start for Keith Dalgleish.

Don’t forget to bet on the 3:45 at GOODWOOD, 3:50 at YORK and 3:55 at CARTMEL.

Horse Welfare

At all of our race meetings, there are three equine vets on duty They are equipped and positioned to give immediate care to a horse should it require it. This may involve screens being erected around a horse to give the veterinary team privacy to administer treatment and does not necessarily mean the worst. The same applies with doctors and jockeys.

Dress Code

A summary of the dress code guidelines for each area of the racecourse can be found below

Hospitality Areas, Chester Members, Winning Post, County Long Room and County Concourse

Race Description

This is a seven furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 105

To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70
