FORM RATINGS

6

7

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time) going allowance number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

DISTANCES

In an open event, only a tentative vote can go to PARAMARIBO. Iain Jardine’s charge shaped with promise over 2m4f on his handicap debut at Musselburgh last month, finishing third, and with the step up in trip likely to suit, he could take another step forward. Faithfulflyer has been in good form of late and he’s fancied to play a leading role, along with recent Kelso scorer Shantou Moon Others to note include Fortcanyon and Jessiemac.

MOUNT SOUTH was far from disgraced when finishing third on his handicap debut at Uttoxeter last month and Ian Williams’ inmate may find this long journey a fruitful one. Something Golden was last seen running a fair third behind a handicap blot at Newcastle and, with this stiffer test expected to suit, he’s feared most. Having A Barney finished third at Wetherby in January and the six-year-old merits respect off the same mark, while any market support for handicap debutant Serious Mickey could be worth noting.

EUCHAN FALLS has improved this year and having shown determination to force the result his way in first-time cheekpieces (retained) at Musselburgh, a 5lb higher mark might not stop him from following up. Zwicky also won in a game manner on his latest start and is feared from just 4lb higher, while Smart Boyo receives weight from the rest and got closest to the selection in that Musselburgh contest. Bestiarius could also bounce back.

BELLANEY LORD: Following its run on 27/2/2023 it was reported that the horse weakened quickly late-on.

DON’T LOOK BACK: Following its run on 17/2/2023 it was reported that the horse sustained an overreach.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Bellaney Lord (IRE), 10-3 Thistle Ask (IRE), 9-2 Whitehaven (FR), 13-2 Kingston Bridge (IRE), 12-1 Skol (GB), 28-1 Donso Star (GB), 33-1 Beat The Retreat (IRE), 50-1 Lights Are Green (IRE), 66-1 Melnik (IRE), 80-1 Don’t Look Back (GB), 150-1 Desert Stranger (GB), 200-1 Captain Nelson (IRE)

THISTLE ASK was disappointing when stepping into handicap company over C&D at the beginning of last month, when fancied to give a solid account. However, the six-year-old is taken to bounce back with his sights lowered on this occasion. Bellaney Lord may benefit from the drop to 2m following a below-par display here. Skol is likely to appreciate reverting to hurdles and may fight it out for the placings along with Kingston Bridge and Melnik. totewin: Thistle Ask toteeachway: Bellaney Lord

RUBY ISLAND remains unbeaten over hurdles after completing the double at Wetherby in fine style last month and, despite now shouldering a double penalty, a hat-trick could be on the cards. Windtothelightning also has two successes over the smaller obstacles to her name and appears the chief threat after recently winning on her handicap debut at Market Rasen. Bridget Breeze boasts some decent bumper form and is another to note.
