Aintree Racecard - Friday 19th May

Page 12

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome back to Aintree for our first Music Night of 2023.

It’s great to see you all back at the racecourse for what is set to be a great event, which combines action on the track followed by some top-class entertainment from one of the country’s biggest girl bands, the Sugababes.

Racing gets underway at 5.20pm with the Visit racingtv.com Novices’ Hurdle Race, with the last runners and riders going to post at 8.50pm.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are supporting racing this evening including Racing TV and Huyton Asphalt - we wish them all a wonderful time here with us The race at 6.30pm is also being ran in support of Racing Welfare’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which has been taking place this week.

Shortly after the last race, Sugababes will take to the stage at 9.15pm to provide an evening of great entertainment for everyone to enjoy. One of the most successful British girl bands of the 21st century, the Sugababes clocked up six Number One singles, multiple multi-platinum albums and became one of the most spectacular stories of the modern pop era. We’re delighted to welcome them here to Aintree Racecourse, and very much hope they have a great visit.

After today, we next race again on Friday 16th June when we will be joined by Pete Tong and the 65-piece Essential Orchestra, conducted by Jules Buckley, for an evening of Ibiza Classics. Tickets are still available to purchase, so head on over to www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/aintree to secure your entry.

We’ll then be going on our summer break and will return with our annual Halloween Fun Day on Saturday 29th of October. We’ve had a wonderful season here at Aintree Racecourse so far and have witnessed some incredible racing

For now, we wish you all a wonderful afternoon and evening with us, and thank you for all of your continued support.

Warm wishes,

T: 0344 579 3001

PLAY SMARTER

FATHER OF JAZZ was a useful performer on the Flat and travelled with much more zest when scoring in a small field at Kempton earlier in the month. He’s fancied to defy a 6lb penalty and follow up here, though this a decent race of its type, with Gaius and VE Day also having made promising starts to their hurdling careers, albeit the latter needing to bounce back after a poor showing last time

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Aintree Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
