Touch down in the imperial city of Marrakech. Welcome to Morocco – a land of exotic culture, breathtaking peaks and the biggest hot desert in the world.

We’ll head to our hotel and get stuck into an icebreaker session – this is your opportunity to set personal and group goals, discuss expectations and prepare for the adventure ahead.

You’re about to experience the places you’ve been dreaming about. This is a country of ancient medinas, Berber villages and the mighty Atlas Mountains. It’s time to get involved.

DAY 2

LIFE SKILLS DISCOVERY QUEST

Sleep: Hotel

Highlights: Life skills discovery quest in Marrakech

You’ll need to bring your A game today as you take on a life skills discovery quest through Marrakech. In teams, you’ll race through the city, using clues to solve puzzles along the way.

Get set, go! You’re off through ‘the Red City’ with its pinky-red buildings. Seek out special landmarks, like Djemaa El Fna Square, home to storytellers, musicians and medicine men.

Navigate the labyrinth of souks together and find the next checkpoint, asking locals for help along the way. The city’s streets are a feast for the senses, with palaces, mosques, mopeds and donkey carts.

To finish the race, you’ll need to draw on your skills and ideas. This is an opportunity to develop your ability to think outside the box, work collaboratively and get immersed in local culture. There are prizes to win!

TRAVELLING RESPONSIBLY

REMEMBER, YOU’RE MORE THAN A TOURIST IN THIS PLACE. YOU’RE PART OF A TEAM OF GLOBAL CITIZENS, EMBRACING DIVERSITY AND COMMITTED TO LIFELONG LEARNING.

STAY OPEN TO OPPORTUNITIES, CONTRIBUTE WHERE YOU CAN, AND CONNECT WITH THE MANY PEOPLE YOU MEET ALONG THE ROAD.

Celebrate your success over a traditional Moroccan lunch. As you tuck into tasty tagines and couscous, reflect on what you and your team achieved. Discuss how you worked together and where you could improve.

DAY 3

BERBER CULTURE IMMERSION & GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP CHALLENGE

Sleep: Guesthouse

Travel: Transfer 2.5hrs to Imlil

Highlights: Immersive village walk, Berber lunch, global citizenship challenge

We’re heading south to the village of Imlil in the High Atlas Mountains. It’s time to get immersed in local life. When you arrive, notice how the air feels thinner – you’re now in North Africa’s highest mountains!

Meet your local guide and walk through terraced fields, fruit orchards and walnut groves to Aroumd village. We’ll spend the rest of the day with a Berber community, and sleep in traditional mud-brick gites (guesthouses).

Few tourists experience this side of Morocco. Rural life can be tough, and you’ll have to adapt – but it’s a rare chance to connect with the locals and learn about their lives.

DAY 4

EXPLORE THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Sleep: Hostel

Travel: Transfer 2.5hrs to Marrakech

Highlights: Community walk, cookery class, personal growth reflection

Strap on your daypack – we’re about to spend the morning exploring more of the High Atlas Mountains on foot. It’s an epic landscape of wide valleys, thick forests and rugged peaks.

We’ll meet our guide at Aroumd and set off through the foothills, past mountain springs, pine woods and Berber villages. Support each other on the steady climb up a steep trail to the Tamaterte Pass. Just look at those views!

When we arrive back at Aroumd, we’ll join a cooking class. Learn how to create your favourite Moroccan dishes – then tuck in!

We’ll walk back to Imlil and return to Marrakech for our final night in Morocco. At dinner, try using your Arabic to order!

Dive into Berber culture when we share lunch with the community. You can also join village activities and swap stories from home.

In the evening, delve into a global citizenship challenge based on what you’ve experienced in the village so far. You’ll need to draw on your ethical decision making, creativity, teamwork and problem solving to come up with a solution.

MEET THE BERBERS

MOROCCO’S BERBER PEOPLE ARE ETHNIC MOUNTAIN PEOPLE, INDIGENOUS TO NORTH AFRICA. THEIR LANGUAGE AND TRADITIONS DATE BACK TO PREHISTORIC TIMES.

As our trip wraps up, reflect on your growth journey. Notice how your confidence has grown, and set your friendships in stone. This trip has broadened your horizons. The memories will stay with you forever.

LEARN THE LINGO

LEARN A FEW WORDS OF ARABIC TO CONNECT WITH THE LOCALS. ‘SHUKRAN’ MEANS THANK YOU AND ‘AFAK’ MEANS PLEASE.
