He was the first surgeon and doctor within India which decided to concentrate on the spine surgery field and led to the creation of the specialisation that doctors have studied and practised.After having graduated from Mumbai's KEM Medical College, he was an orthopaedic surgeon. The growing demand for the growing sector of spinal health caused him to travel to different countries to learn more about the subject. Then , he took the choice to concentrate solely on the spine, and began to establish the first spinal treatment centre within India located at KEM Hospital. The spine team was performing well however, it needed more resources to aid in the development of research.

Shekhar Bhojraj saw the opportunity to raise money for research on spinal disorders. Hinduja was the first Indian hospital run by a private business to host an ultra-specialty hospital in India.

The doctor Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj wasn't content with the services provided to the wealthy and decided to offer similar services for those less fortunate and the less lucky. That was when he decided to begin the Spine Foundation with an aim to offer affordable healthcare to all.
