The school currently serves a diverse student body of nearly 2,300 students in grades 7-12 from more than 100 cities throughout Southern California. In addition to offering a challenging college-preparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars, OCSA provides aspiring young artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 16 arts conservatories. Each year, more than 200 concerts, recitals, staged performances, and exhibitions are presented at a variety of venues in Orange County and throughout the world, providing students with the unique experience of entertaining and inspiring thousands of audience members. OCSA is a tuition-free, donation-dependent public charter school; no student is offered or denied enrollment based on financial capacity. A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear Friends and Families, Welcome to the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) 2020-2021 performance season! We are in the midst of truly unprecedented times. While our season may look different from those of years past, I am grateful that the arts can continue to connect us, inspire us, and uplift us as we look toward a brighter future. Our dedicated and passionate students have demonstrated such ingenuity in adapting to a time of Zoom lessons and socially distant projects. Their resilience is a direct reflection of the spirit and heart of our amazing school. Despite the many changes that the pandemic has brought about, OCSA is proud to present a lineup of excellent presentations and collaborations by all of the school’s phenomenal arts conservatories that showcase the diverse talents our students have to offer. I would like to express my gratitude to our Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, Foundation Advisory Board, Emeritus Board, President’s Circle, Encore, and PSO members. Their continued leadership and vision help to shape the lives of our students each and every day. I must also take a moment to acknowledge the OCSA family, which includes YOU. I am very proud of the way our parents, students, alumni families, administrators, faculty/staff, and members of the local community have come together to meet the unique challenges of these times. The opportunities we provide for our young artists would not be possible without your extraordinary support, commitment, and enthusiasm. I would especially like to recognize our students, who — even when faced with great uncertainty — have remained positive and strong, serving as examples for us all. Their hard work is the driving force behind all we do and continually reminds us of why we do it. Now, I invite everyone to join me in celebrating another impressive OCSA performance season. Please enjoy! All good things,

Ralph S. Opacic, Ed.D. Founder and Executive Director Orange County School of the Arts

The school has now focused that common goal under the philanthropic umbrella of OCSA RISING, a campaign to support all the programs needed to inspire, impact, and invest in the next generation of artist-scholars. This campaign offers a menu of giving opportunities to meet donor interests and passions, and will continue to transform young lives for decades to come. WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN US BY INVESTING IN ONE OR MORE OF OUR OCSA RISING OPPORTUNITIES. TOGETHER, WITH YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT, WE CAN HELP OCSA STUDENTS RISE TO BECOME THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW!

real students, real stories. focused on becoming a doctor until the end of 10th grade. found my real passion was for environmental science. switched my focus. got into harvard university. never thought i would leave california for college. went on spectrum’s college dream tour. now, i’m a junior at nyu. i wanted to go to a school that was close to torrance, my home, and had a good public health program. i’m starting my freshmen year online at usc. after i realized that some schools have a more open curriculum and others a defined and challenging one, i chose the strictest college when it comes to classes that i could find so i could hone my academic skills before i pursue an mba: yale university. being debt free mattered to me so i maintained a high gpa, started looking into liberal arts colleges and registered for all the scholarships i could. i’m going to williams college and everything is fully paid for. i failed two classes and thought my college hopes were dashed. i worked hard to makeup the classes over summer. now, i’m at boston college. my parents drove me every week to the colburn school. i got to play at carnegie hall in ny and went to austria with my orchestra. now i’m a freshmen at yale. i am ocsa alumni. my parents wanted me to go to uc irvine. i wanted to go to berkeley. i won.

tips that will change your students life and future. visit colleges starting in 8th and 9th grade. start filling out the uc and common app starting freshmen year. start reading college essays online at johns hopkins “essays that worked” do extracurricular activities that you enjoy. be consistent in your extracurricular activities. leadership matters. make solid relationships with your counselor and teachers. https://www.astartingpoint.com is a great website to get to know. help people. learn to write really well. making good friends will promote your emotional and mental health and that will get you very far. try to get good grades without depending on your tutor. good tutoring is filling in the gaps not forcing you to do well. spectrum mentoring. 10+ years of mentoring excellence. 30 students accepted per year. contact us for a no-pressure initial ZOOM meeting. info@spectrumedulab.com or txt msg 562-405-4016. ask for john park (director) and ocsa dad.
